SUGA Shrine
Suga Shrine has been located in Yotsuya since the early Edo period (1603-1868), and is the town deity of the 18 townships of Yotsuya.
The annual festival held in June is called "Tenno Matsuri" in Yotsuya, and was famous as one of the five major festivals of Edo. The name of the shrine, "Suga," is based on the legend that Susano-no-mikoto defeated a giant eight-mata serpent upstream in the Land of Izumo and picked it up, declaring, "I have come to this land and my heart is Suga, Suga," and occupying the palace residence.
