About Tour Guide Shoten S.
Hello, my name is Shoten, please call me Sho. I was born in a local area in Toyama prefecture. I majored in civil engineering at a college and am interested in historical infrastructures.
After graduation, I continued to study English at a local English circle. In international activities, I also guided foreign people around Toyama Prefecture, Ishikawa Prefecture, and Gifu Prefecture.
After retirement, I work as a guide interpreter and a translator.
The Hokuriku region has many sightseeing spots, including beautiful landscapes like Kenrokuen Garden and Tateyama, tasty food like traditional Kaga dishes and fresh seafood from Toyama Bay, and traditional crafts like Takaoka copperware and Inami woodcarving. I introduce these spots and historical infra tourism, such as the Kurobe dam and industrial tourism.
I look forward to welcoming you to the Hokuriku region.

“Great time in the Takaoka area”
Sho was great to work with in putting together a day of sightseeing and experiences based on things we were interested in. He was there waiting for us when we walked off the ship. The tour was beyond expectations. When the tin class we were interested in was sold out he arranged for us to take a sake cup making class with a master artisan. To work directly with the Master artisan and his wife was one of our highlights of our 3 week trip. The gorge trip was beautiful. Lucky for us the timing was perfect as the boat was not full. This allowed us to move from side to side easily. Unexpectedly Sho wanted to quickly show us another area which was Inami Nanto-city, Yokomachi street which led to the Zui senji Temple. Due to the short time we were unable to go into the Zui senji temple. The temple has been added to my "To Do" list for my next visit to Japan. Carvings were amazing and I would like the time to try and find some of the cats on Yokomachi street. He made sure that we were back on the Ship ahead of the time posted by the ship. Definitely recommend for providing guide services in Takaoka and surrounding areas.

“Visit to Kanazawa”
We spent an extremely informative day with Sho at Kenrokuen Garden,;Kanazawa castle, lunch and a Samurai house. There is so much history in the area and Sho is knowledgeable and pleased to share the information. He said that he spends time going to various sites so that he is as informed as he can possibly be - it serves him well. .There are other sites that we would like to have seen but we only had one day - we'll have to come back. Two of us out of our threesome have dietary concerns and he made sure we ate in a restaurant that would keep us healthy. I would highly recommend him.

“Wonderful tour of Kaga Onsen from Kanazawa”
Thanks for a great day Sho. We had previously been to Kanazawa and wanted to see something different. Sho arranged a full day tour for us visiting craft sites and a beautiful temple in nearby Kaga Onsen, ferrying us around in his own car, and returning us to our cruise ship at the end of the day. Takaoka make-a-wish road tour
Takaoka was established as a castle town made by a feudal lord, Maeda. The castle was originally existed at the central part of the town. Now there is a large park named "Takaoka old castle park". Including the park and two more important places are located on the same street. It is called "Negaimichi" meaning "Make-a-wish road". In the tour, we are going to collect three red ink stamps on wood planks at three important places in Takaoka. After collecting, we will write our wishes on them.
