Naoto K.
Hello! I’m Naoto. I was born and raised in the dramatic landscape of Toyama, with Kanazawa as my favorite weekend playground since my young-hood. I am thrilled that you are considering the Hokuriku region for your Japanese journey. After living abroad and spending decades in Tokyo area, I returned to my roots with a clear mission: to share the authentic, soulful Japan that remains tucked away from the crowds. In Toyama and Kanazawa, you won’t just see history—you will feel it. This is a region of "hidden gems," where ancient traditions and pristine nature coexist in their purest form. I specialize in taking you where the tour buses don’t go. Whether we are: Unlocking Samurai Legacies: Exploring the hidden corridors of Kanazawa’s history and the delicate mastery of its gold-leaf artisans. Savoring the Secret Harvest: Dining at secluded mountain retreats or tasting the "jewels of the sea" fresh from Toyama Bay. Immersive Nature & Tradition: From the dramatic peaks of the Northern Alps to the quiet craftsmanship of woodcarving villages and local festivals. Pop Culture & Local Legends: Diving into the world of manga, anime, and folklore known only to those who live here. Because of my years overseas, I understand the curiosity and the "why" behind an international traveler's questions. I don’t just show you the sights; I translate the culture, bridging the gap between a visitor and a local. Every itinerary is 100% customized to your pace, your interests, and your sense of adventure. Let’s step off the beaten path together. Reach out today, and let’s start planning your one-of-a-kind Japanese adventure! Shoten S.
Hello, my name is Shoten, please call me Sho. I was born in a local area in Toyama prefecture. I majored in civil engineering at a college and am interested in historical infrastructures. After graduation, I continued to study English at a local English circle. In international activities, I also guided foreign people around Toyama Prefecture, Ishikawa Prefecture, and Gifu Prefecture. After retirement, I work as a guide interpreter and a translator. The Hokuriku region has many sightseeing spots, including beautiful landscapes like Kenrokuen Garden and Tateyama, tasty food like traditional Kaga dishes and fresh seafood from Toyama Bay, and traditional crafts like Takaoka copperware and Inami woodcarving. I introduce these spots and historical infra tourism, such as the Kurobe dam and industrial tourism. I look forward to welcoming you to the Hokuriku region.

My interests include art, architecture, food, sake, wine, and sustainability. In the past, I had the opportunity to visit destinations around the world. My passion for traveling and experiencing other cultures helped me recognize the beauty in my own culture, and inspired me to become a tour guide. I’m a fun, energetic, and passionate guide who’s ready to show you an unforgettable time in Japan, whatever your interests may be! Hida is a beautiful region tucked away in the Northern Alps, and its location helped preserve Takayama’s old town constructed by local master carpenters. On your tour, I’ll give you tips on what you should look for to appreciate traditional Japanese architecture. If you’re a sake lover, Hida is the place for you because the cold climate makes it suitable for brewing quality sake. I’m a licensed Sake Sommelier, and I’d love to take you to the breweries in town and give you some recommendations. I’ve also been trained to host art tours. If you’re interested in contemporary Japanese art, I recommend visiting Kanazawa, where you can find inspirational creativity in every corner! My goal is to help you discover the authentic Japanese way of life while feeling comfortable like a local rather than standing out like a tourist. Please let me know what kind of experience you’re looking for, and I will happily tailor a unique experience just for you. Fun facts about me! I was sponsored to travel around the world twice I was a torch runner in the 1998 Nagano Olympics I grew up in nature, eating wild plants and seeing many wild animals

I will take guests to Takaoka's attractions. The real Japanese life spreads out in the town. We not only see around Takaoka's landmarks basically, but also talk with locals at some places. The tour starts from where you like and ends where you like. It is possible to do this because the tour is done by car. There are attractive sites, but they are dispersed in the area. So I have planned this tour for tourists using a car. Let's go to area's many attractions.

Toyama Tour Reviews
Sabrina Y.
“Flexible, scenic, off the beaten path”
Yuta accommodated my last-minute request to drop by the traditional medicine shop before heading for the Great Buddha. We also managed to visit a brand new observation bridge for viewing Mt Tateyama before learning more about the history of copper casting in the historic district of Takaoka. The owners were kind enough to show us around their workshops and explain the process, so it was quite educational. The castle area with all the cherry blossoms and the coastline were both very beautiful. Recommended for folks who have specific interests or want a scenic and relaxing day away from the usual tourist hotspots. Personally, I would've appreciated more suggestions on available options and local attractions.

Thank you for joining the tour! We started Toyama station and went the Ikedaya Yasube pharmacy and experienced making medicine pills. On the way to Takaoka, we visited the brand new bridge "Kureha foot path", and we could see the scenery great view of Tateyama mountain range. It was the perfect day to go to the observatory. In Takaoka, we visited Takaoka great Buddha, cafe, Takaoka old castle park, Kanayamachi town, and Amaharashi coast. It was the best day for seeing cherry blossoms and Mt. Tateyama, so I chose those spots this time, but I wish I could have offered a few more options. I would like to make this clear. Thank you!

“Cultural and immersive tours ”
First time for a day visit to Toyama. We were visiting from a cruse ship. Yuta and his driver Taka met us promptly at the meeting place. He had planned some interesting activities to learn about the real Japan. This included tours of places of worship, rituals and explanations. We went to see artisans at work making ceremonial bowls and kimonos. We were the only tourists there. It was a personal experience. Yuta’s English was exceptional. We talked about Japanese food and he even took us to the supermarket to buy ingredients. The vehicle was excellent and Yuta really goes out of his way to make the experience unique. Would recommend.

I was really glad to meet you guys! I planned unique experience for you this time. That ceremonial bowls is called "Keisu" in Japanese. In the sewing class, they came to welcome you and wear Kimono for the presentation even not on the lesson day, voluntarily. They were very happy that you wore Kimono and you said it was tasty Match tea. Those seasonings from the supermarket would be nice for cooking after coming back to your county. We all really appreciate you came to Takaoka area! Please come back in the future!
