Yumiko O.
Hello, my name is Yumiko, and I am a licensed tour guide based in Japan. It is my pleasure to share the beauty of Japan with travelers from all over the world. I have guided many visitors through Tokyo, Kamakura, Hakone, and other famous destinations, as well as hidden gems that only locals know. My goal is always to create a tour that is not only informative but also enjoyable and personalized to your interests. With a warm and flexible guiding style, I love helping guests discover Japan’s traditions, history, and everyday life. Whether you are interested in temples and shrines, delicious local food, or simply strolling through charming streets, I will do my best to make your time in Japan unforgettable. I am excited to announce that I have started offering tours in Odawara! Odawara is a historic castle town located just an hour from Tokyo, famous for its impressive Odawara Castle, beautiful views of both the sea and mountains, and its role as the gateway to Hakone. In addition to exploring the castle and tasting local specialties such as fresh seafood and kamaboko (fish cakes), you can also enjoy many Instagram-worthy spots, from the scenic coastline to charming traditional houses that give a glimpse of Japan’s past. Odawara is still less crowded compared to other popular destinations, so it’s a great time to visit. I look forward to welcoming you and creating wonderful memories together!

Yacco M.
Hi, I’m Yacco, a friendly and passionate local guide. I was born and raised in Shizuoka and have lived in Yokohama for over 30 years. For the past several years, I’ve been guiding international visitors in Kamakura, Yokohama, and Tokyo as a volunteer, helping them discover the rich history, culture, and hidden charm of these unique cities. Traveling abroad creates once-in-a-lifetime memories, and I would love for you to fully experience the beauty and spirit of my favorite towns. I not only enjoy showing historical and modern landmarks, but also love introducing quiet backstreets, seasonal flowers, cozy cafés, and delicious local food that reflect the charm of everyday life. What I enjoy most is comparing Japanese traditions with my guests’ own cultures and histories—these conversations often lead to deep and inspiring exchanges. As your guide, I’m happy to customize tours based on your interests, whether you’re seeking unique experiences, historical insights, or local flavors. Let’s walk, talk, and create unforgettable memories together!

Shohei T.
Hi, I’m Shohei — a professional guitarist, singer, and private guide based in Kyoto! I was born in Japan but grew up in the city called Dublin, Ohio. My family moved there when I was 4yrs old because of my father’s was in the automotive industry. My passion for acoustic guitar led me to Boston, where I studied at Berklee College of Music. Since graduating in 2008, I’ve worked professionally as a musician, performing and teaching around the world and receiving several international awards in the acoustic fingerstyle guitar genre. In 2012, I fulfilled a long-held dream and moved back to Japan. I’ve called Kyoto home ever since. I started working as a guide in 2019, and I quickly discovered how much I enjoy sharing Japan with people from around the world. My passion for guiding was also inspired by the opportunity to accompany internationally renowned guitarists during their tours and workshops in Japan. I especially love exploring Kyoto’s temples and shrines and sharing the stories behind them. Rather than simply explaining what you see, I enjoy discussing how Buddhism, Shinto, and other traditions have shaped Japanese culture and everyday life. I also love Kyoto’s castles, palaces, gardens, traditional neighborhoods, and art. Having grown up in both Japan and the United States, I naturally have perspectives from both sides. I enjoy sharing cultural differences and helping guests understand not only what Japanese people do, but why. Most of all, I love meeting people, sharing stories, and discovering Kyoto together. Whether you want to explore famous landmarks, find hidden gems, dive deeper into Japanese history and culture, or simply enjoy a relaxed day in Kyoto, I’d be happy to show you around. If you don’t see a tour that fits your interests, feel free to message me. I’m always happy to create a private, custom experience for you! I look forward to meeting you and exploring Kyoto together!

Akira Y.
Hi there, I'm Akira. — welcome to Japan! Born and raised in Yokohama, I've spent my entire career helping people communicate and connect: first as an English conversation instructor and teacher trainer, then as Head of the Education Department, and eventually as Director and CEO of a language school. What does that mean for you as my guest? It means easy to understand English communication, a warm and patient guiding style, and genuine, engaging conversation throughout the day — not just a list of facts and dates. I love sharing the stories behind what you see: the history, the culture, everyday life, and how Japan continues to change today. Having worked extensively in Tokyo and lived my whole life in and around Yokohama, I know this region inside and out — from the iconic landmarks to the quiet local spots most visitors never find on their own. Every tour I offer can be fully customized to match your interests, walking pace, and curiosity, whether that's history, food, photography, or simply a relaxed day of exploring. I can't wait to share my hometown and the wider Kanagawa area with you. Let's make your trip to Japan unforgettable!

Japan Tour Reviews
Amanda S.
“Best tour ever”
Shu was fantastic and so gracious. My husband & I and our 2 adult daughters had a 5 hr tour. He met us at our Airbnb and we took the train to Tsukiji Mkt. Shu knew the best stalls for tuna, Wagyu, shrimp tempura, grilled crab etc. We ate our way through very casually. He never rushed at all. Then train to Asakusa to see the oldest temple and walk around more pedestrian only shops. At this point we were past 5 hrs but Shu asked me if we were ok and if so he was and would take us to Ueno. We all had so much fun talking with him and sharing stories and pictures. He was literally the best guide I’ve ever had and I travel a lot and try to start new cities with a guided tour.

Please say hi to your husband and your daughters for me too. Thank you again for spending such a wonderful day with me. I really enjoyed our time together! Hope to see you all again someday! “An Absolute Treat”
On our second visit to Tokyo, we were fortunate enough to have Shusaku guide us for the second time, in a completely different area to our first tour with him two years ago. Shusaku gave us a wonderful night seeing the sights and bright lights in these famous Shinjuku areas, trying a variety of drinks and foods at three bars. Each one had a different atmosphere and added to our experience of the area, and each one was also full of locals enjoying the house specialties. A highlight was the hot sake with a burning blowfish fin, and another was entering a bar that I wouldn't have known was there or even found if I had known it was there, a truly hidden spot. I won't spoil the surprise by describing more, but I will say you can trust Shusaku to curate an experience that you cannot find as a foreigner without a guide. Shusaku is also considerate in every way, and very good company. Thanks again, mate, for an absolute treat!

Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words. They truly mean a lot to me. It was an absolute pleasure and honor to have you back in Japan and to have the opportunity to guide you again. Time flew by, and I had such a wonderful time with you both. It makes me very happy, as a Japanese person, to know that you love Japan and continue to enjoy your time here. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you come back to Japan or if you ever need anything. Thank you again for such a wonderful time. I’m already looking forward to seeing you again! “An Exceptional Guide for Understanding Kyoto”
We had an outstanding day in Kyoto with Akira. What impressed us most was the depth of his knowledge. This was far from being a simple tour where you move from one monument to another. Akira truly brings Kyoto to life by constantly explaining the historical context, the traditions, the role of each place, and how everything fits into the broader history of Japan. He seems to know absolutely everything about his country and its history, and he is able to answer questions on an incredible range of topics throughout the day. For anyone who is genuinely interested in understanding Kyoto rather than simply seeing it, this makes a huge difference. The itinerary itself was extremely coherent, complete and very well thought out. We felt that every stop had a purpose and contributed to giving us a much broader understanding of the city. On top of being an incredible source of knowledge, Akira is also a genuinely lovely person to spend the day with: very kind, attentive, enthusiastic and always in a wonderful mood. A truly exceptional guide. We recommend him without hesitation!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I feel very lucky to have met you both, and I’m truly happy that I could show you some of the best of Kyoto. The weather was also on our side, giving us such a pleasant temperature for exploring the city during the summer. I think that was lucky for both of us—but most of all, I was lucky to have met you.Thank you for coming to Kyoto and for trusting my recommendations. I hope you enjoyed the food, the culture, and the experience. I really hope you’ll come back to Chengdu one day, and that we’ll have the chance to meet again. Thank you so much!
