Meeting Point

Demachiyanagi Station

Kyoto Gosho

To start approaching the city, it is necessary to approach the empire, therefore the imperial palace (Kyoto-Gosho), main residence of the emperors until 1868.

Nijo-jo

Nijo Castle represents the absolute power of the shoguns in Kyoto. It is with this in mind that Nijo Castle (Nijo-jo in Japanese) was built. Designed in 1603 by Tokugawa Ieyasu and completed in 1626, it served as a Kyoto home for shoguns of the Edo period.

Kinkaku-ji

The Golden Pavilion, real name Rokuan-ji, is one of Kyoto's most visited tourist spots. Its gold leaf pavilion symbolizes the splendor of Kyoto, the imperial capital.

Ginkaku-ji

The Silver pavilion is more sober than its illustrious colleague but it is worth the visit for its pretty building, its Zen garden and its view of Kyoto.

The philosopher's Path

This path is close to Ginkaku-ji and we can take it when we leave to end the day in style. The name of the promenade dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, named after the philosopher Kitarô Nishida (1870-1945) who particularly appreciated it.

Reviews

Had a great time with Mouloud guiding us.

Mouloud does not just guide us, he tells us the historical background of Mt Yoshino and how some of the Japanese culture and history relates to the mountain, temples and shrines. It was educational. Mouloud was also patience with us as we have a member of the group who couldn’t move as fast as the others. Overall, it was a good day trip. Tiring but enjoyable. Thanks Mouloud. TC

Thank you TC for booking my tour and for your great review! I am glad you liked the tour even if it was tiring. I hope to see you again!

Wonderful half day Nara tour with Mouloud

I had an excellent half day tour with Mouloud in Nara. We visit many places including Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Todaiji, Bald Mountain and the Nara park. I learned a lot from Mouloud's explanation about the above places and they made me appreciate Nara more. I especially remember his guidance on how to feed Nara's deer. Thank you so much for making my trip to Nara enjoyable and I'd definitely recommend him as a guide to everyone who wants to visit Nara.

Why not enjoy your holidays in Kyoto? You can certainly get in touch with many things Japanese that we are proud of. They are old temples and shrines, cultural assets and the beautiful natural surroundings. You can also enjoy dropping in at souvenir stores and buy exquisitely made products, such as folding fans, porcelain and traditional Japanese cakes. I would like to take you to the following places, which are the three representative tourist destinations in this city: (1) Arashiyama It is the place where all the traditional natural beauties of Japan are combined together. They are Togetsukyo bridge, bamboo grove and the old temples. If you go up to the observation spot, you can enjoy the magnificent view of the gorge below. You can also see rickshaws of the olden times drawn by young people with smiling passengers on board. There are souvenir shops selling variety of goods and products. (2) Nijo-jo Castle (World Cultural Heritage Site) This castle was built in the early 17th century by the Tokugawa Shogunate government for the purpose of protecting the Kyoto Imperial Palace and as the accommodations when Tokugawa Shogun was in Kyoto. It was subsequently enlarged by successive Shogun. It is the castle as well as the palace, where you can see the powerful structures and beautiful gardens. You can learn, in addition, how great the power of Tokugawa Shogun was. (3) Kinkakuji temple (the Golden Pavilion) (World Cultural Heritage Site) The history of this temple began when the third Shogun of the Muromachi period acquired a tract of land in this area from a powerful statesman in 1397 and built a villa of his own to entertain the Emperor and members of the nobility. The upper two levels of the temple are covered with pieces of gold foil and are shining brilliantly against the background of the rich greenery. The pond in the foreground reflects the golden structure. It looks like the materialization of Pure Land of Buddha in this world. In addition, on the top of the golden structure is the shining phoenix.
