Rokuō-in is renowned for its tranquil atmosphere, beautiful gardens, and classic Zen architecture. The temple grounds feature a pond, meticulously maintained gardens, and a path leading through a serene forested area, making it a peaceful retreat for meditation and reflection. which emphasizes devotion to Amida Buddha and the practice of chanting the Nembutsu (念仏), meaning the recitation of the phrase "Namu Amida Butsu" as a path to enlightenment and rebirth in the Pure Land.
The temple features around 8,000 stone statues, called "Sentaijizo," donated by worshippers and believers for prayers and memorials. Each statue has its own unique expression and appearance, reflecting the individual prayers and wishes of those who placed them.

KYOTO : FOR VISITORS LOOKING FOR A QUIET, contemplative experience 1 day tour
“"I'm walking" - discovering the hidden treasures of Kyoto”
We had a marvelous day with Shin who just knows his stuff. Arrived early to pick us up, adjusted the schedule along our wishes, his experience and knowledge of the places off-the-beaten-track, his diving into history and personal views, they all together gave us a much better impression of this big and fascinating city. He took his time, we got some nice rests along the way (it was a muggy day), and finished up with a great dinner, all at places he had recommended. Visiting an antiques store has been a discovery, the incense store was a treat. Shin speaks excellent English and is super accommodating, what else can you ask for? We are very happy to have selected this tour and having Shin as our guide. Thank you!
