八坂神社 (Yasaka Shrine) is one of Kyoto's most prominent Shinto shrines, located in the Gion district. The shrine is famous for its role in the annual Gion Matsuri, one of Japan's most important and historic festivals, held every July. Yasaka Shrine has a long history, dating back to the 7th century, and is dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the god of storms and the sea, along with his consort Kushinadahime and their children.
The shrine is well-known for its beautiful vermilion buildings, large torii gate, and lantern-lined paths, which are especially stunning when illuminated at night. People visit Yasaka Shrine to pray for good fortune, protection from illness, and success in various aspects of life.

Entoku-in offers a peaceful, reflective atmosphere, especially during the autumn months when the gardens are illuminated at night, showcasing the vibrant autumn foliage. The temple’s rich history, connection to Nene, and stunning artistic elements make it a notable spot for those interested in Japan’s cultural and historical heritage.
Entoku-in is known for its beautiful traditional Japanese gardens, which include a dry landscape (karesansui) garden and a lush moss garden. KYOTO : FOR VISITORS LOOKING FOR A QUIET, contemplative experience 1 day tour
“"I'm walking" - discovering the hidden treasures of Kyoto”
We had a marvelous day with Shin who just knows his stuff. Arrived early to pick us up, adjusted the schedule along our wishes, his experience and knowledge of the places off-the-beaten-track, his diving into history and personal views, they all together gave us a much better impression of this big and fascinating city. He took his time, we got some nice rests along the way (it was a muggy day), and finished up with a great dinner, all at places he had recommended. Visiting an antiques store has been a discovery, the incense store was a treat. Shin speaks excellent English and is super accommodating, what else can you ask for? We are very happy to have selected this tour and having Shin as our guide. Thank you!
