Hidden Christian Pilgrimage ③: SHIMABARA
Visit Cathoric history and hidden Christian related spots in 7 to 9 hours. Starting from ISAHAYA or Nagasaki city. Standard course will be 7 hours, adding optional spots takes longer time, 9 hours max.
Meeting Point
At your hotel or designated place in ISAHAYA or NAGASAKI
- Isahaya JR station is the best meeting place because closer to Shimabara. Nagasaki is also fine, but I need to drive one hour in vain.
(standard) Kubi-zuka:
Head mound, it is told that beheaded thousands of Christian's heads were buried here in 17th century.
(standard) The statue of Migeru Chijiwa
Migeru Chijiwa was born this area, he was the one of the member of TENSHO Delegacy.

Exhibits Hidden Christian related materials.

289 years old natural hot spring public bath. Non-heated, non-chlorinated. Only one white color natural hotspring in Unzen area.

“Rainy day in Nagasaki”
Despite the weather we had a great day in Nagasaki with our private guide Hero. He went out of his way to rent a large comfortable vehicle for our group of 5 and rearranged the tour to accommodate the rain. He was very receptive and flexible and had a lot of knowledge to share!

“A great first day + introduction to Nagasaki with Hero - looking forward to more”
I'm very grateful for Hero's patience (I took ages photographing virtually everything everywhere), kindness, knowledge, helpfulness and sense of humour - it was a lot to take in but all very relevant to my novel WIP, so am delighted with his assistance for this very important research I am doing. Also very grateful he drove me back to the car park to find my lost wallet and showed me how to reach the train station in the morning. Also had some fun/funny moments too, so a nice bit of comic relief from seriousness of bomb and martyrdom sites.
