We'll first visit the site of Japan's largest tombs, in Sakai City. Then we'll take a train to Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine, which is the favorite Shinto place of Osaka people. On weekends, we may even see traditional Shinto weddings. Our next stop will be Nishinari and Shinsekai districts. Nishinari is what people would call the "deep" part of Osaka, where few foreign visitors go, whereas Shinsekai is more open to tourists. Yet both have in common this retro vibe that I personally love.

Mozu - Tomb of Emperor Nintoku
The Mozu Tombs are a fascinating cluster of ancient tombs located in the Mozu area of Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. These tombs, dating back to the 4th to 6th centuries, were built for the ruling elite of that time. The most famous of these tombs is the Emperor Nintoku Kofun, believed to be the tomb of Emperor Nintoku. It is one of the largest tombs in the world.
Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine
The Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine is one of Japan's oldest and most significant shrines. It is famous for its beautiful Sorihashi Bridge (also known as Taiko Bridge). If we are lucky, we will be able to catch a glimpse of newly-wed couples in kimono or parents taking their children to the shrine for the first time.
Shinsekai - Kushikatsu lunch break
Shinsekai is known for its retro vibe, but also for its local food. I'll take you to a kushikatsu restaurant where you will be able to try these delicious deep-fried skewers. I'll show you retro arcade games as well as on old pachinko place. Of course, I'll introduce you to Billiken, Shinsekai's mascot!
Nishinari District - Fragrance of The Showa Era
Nishinari is the place for the forgotten, for the poor, for the homeless. This is one of Osaka’s last true downtown districts.

I've been living in Japan since 2016. I speak fluent Japanese and work as a translator in addition to my guiding activities. I'd be delighted to guide you around the Kansai region, which includes Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and Nara, among others. I've been lucky enough to guide over 200 people since I started guiding, and I hope to be able to share my passion for Japan with as many people as possible.
I'm available for half-day or full-day tours.
