What to Expect

This tour is suitable for travelers that have already visited the more popular sites in Tokyo and wishing to visit less known historical places in eastern Tokyo.

Tokyo (Edo) demonstrated its resilience recovering from many catastrophes. Particularly devastating were the Great Fire of Meireki in 1657 and the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. We will be visiting two historical sites founded in remembrance of those that lost their lives in the two catastrophes.

I will also be introducing some parts of the two Japanese Gardens related to the two catastrophes during the walk in the gardens.

The visit to Fukagawa Edo Museum should also be an informative experience to view and walk around a real size replica of the township of Fukagawa in the late Edo era.

One lunch option is to enjoy Fukagawa-meshi, which is a soy sauce based steamed rice with plenty of clams. I will change the order of the excursion if you opt for this option.

All the five sites highlighted in this tour are in close proximity of each other and can be visited within five hours. However if you wish to enjoy a more relaxed tour, I suggest we skip one site least appealing to you.
