KON-NICHI-WA (Hello)! I’m Mitsuru

I was born in Hokkaido, the northern part of Japan. When I was five, my family moved to Seattle, USA. That’s when my classroom teacher gave me the name “Mark,” and I also began learning English — though it was children’s English then.

After I returned to Japan at the age of eleven, I faced many challenges adjusting to a new environment. It was tough and it continued till maybe recently, but absolutely it helped me notice the differences and similarities between the two countries. These experiences have truly become the backbone of my career as a tour guide.

My favorite subject is Japanese history, especially Shintoism, Buddhism, and samurai culture. Since I also studied architecture at university, I enjoy introducing visitors to Japan’s unique buildings and structures.

Above all, what I love most is making your trip enjoyable. I want you to feel relaxed, safe, and secure throughout your journey.

“Above our expectations! ”

Mark communicated well early on, and we decided to do the Kamakura tour, which was great. But what really stood out was Mark's professionalism, humility, knowledge, and humor. We felt we had more than just an above-average guide — we made a new friend. Mark met us at our hotel on time and made it clear he was there to help us get the most out of our tour. He was thoughtful enough to gauge how comfortable we were navigating the large, complex stations so he could give us plenty of advice for our future travel plans, beyond the tour at hand. We learned that he is a seasoned guide with over 10 years of experience, and it showed. The area was crowded, but Mark made everything seamless, which is exactly what we wanted. Add to that his deep knowledge of Japanese history, and at no point during the tour were we bored or overwhelmed. I learned so much about history, culture, and spirituality, but in such a casual way that it was easy to absorb and still enlightening. I'm happy to recommend Mark. And by the way, he speaks great English, and more importantly, he's honest and sets clear expectations.

“Amazing day!”

Mark was amazing. He was very thoughtful and accommodating. We provided him with a couple of places we wanted to visit and he planned the day around these. He navigated the train and subway systems for us. Mark showed us more than we thought possible. His choice of restaurant for lunch suited everyone in the group with lots of Japanese cuisine, friendly and delicious. We had a great time. Highly recommend Mark.

“Beautiful Kamakura”

We had a really wonderful day today in Kamakura. We had Mark as a tour guide and he made sure we saw the highlights of Kamakura and also his personal favorites. He was very interesting and insightful. Don’t miss this beautiful place. Mark also helped us print out our train tickets for future travel in Japan, which was a huge help. He explained what we would need to do for the Shinkansen. Highly recommend Mark!
