Osaki Hachiman Shrine

Osaki Hachimangu Shrine is a 400-year-old shrine nestled in a grove of green cedar trees. It is the first guardian shrine of Sendai.

Osaki Hachimangu Shrine was originally built in Mizusawa City, Iwate Prefecture, by Sakanoue Tamuramaro during the Heian period, and was later moved to its current location by Date Masamune in 1607. The main hall of the shrine is the oldest existing Gongen-zukuri building in Japan. It is decorated with gold leaf veneer and lead-white gold fittings with black lacquer as the base tone, and is designated as a national treasure. The shrine grounds also preserve many buildings built by successive lords of Sendai. The Matsu-burning Festival held on January 14th every year is a 300-year-old traditional event that bids farewell to the New Year by burning kadomatsu and shimenawa ropes, attracting thousands of worshippers to pray for health and prosperity. The shrine of Osaki Hachimangu Shrine is a representative of the architecture of the Azuchi-Momoyama period, and its architectural style and decorations reflect the skills of the craftsmen of the time. The interior of the shrine is decorated with works by Kano school painters and rich carvings, reflecting the essence of traditional Japanese architecture and art. The wooden corridor in front of the shrine has also been designated as an important cultural property, contrasting with the luxurious decoration of the shrine and showing the style of Momoyama culture.

Sendai Castle Honmaru Ruins

The Sendai Castle Ruins are the ruins of the Date Clan's castle, which was built on a natural fortress with the cliffs of the Ryuguchi Gorge and the Hirose River as outer moats. They are commonly known as the "Aoba Castle Ruins". Sendai Castle was built in 1603 by Date Masamune, the first lord of the Sendai Domain, and became the Date Clan's residence for more than 270 years. The castle had the Honmaru, Ninomaru, and Sannomaru, but there was no castle tower to prevent the general Tokugawa Ieyasu from being on guard. The old castle disappeared due to war, but the large stone walls and rebuilt corner towers have preserved the appearance of the time. Now there is a horse-riding statue of Date Masamune on the castle tower, and a Gokoku Shrine has been built on the Honmaru ruins. At the Aoba Castle Museum, you can see the Honmaru images that were carefully reproduced using CG. The ruins are now Aobayama Park, and because it is located on the Aobayama hill, you can overlook the Pacific Ocean.

Sendai West Park

Sendai West Park, also known as Nishi Park, is a historic city park that dates back to 1875. It's the oldest park in Sendai and is famous for its seasonal cherry blossoms. The park features an observatory and a baseball stadium, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Every summer, the park becomes a hub of activity with many foreigners visiting to enjoy the natural beauty and the annual cherry blossom festival held in mid-April.

Best way to see Japan - Private Day Tour with Stanley trips!

Best Way to See Japan – Private Day Tour with Stanley Trips! If you’re visiting Japan and debating between public transportation and a private tour, let me make the decision easy for you: book Stanley Trips and don’t look back. We did a nine-hour customized private day tour with them, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our entire trip. Our group of six piled into a spacious, comfortable van and our driver took us exactly where we wanted to go — on our schedule, at our pace, with zero stress. No navigating crowded trains with heavy bags. No standing in long lines. No sore feet from hauling yourselves between stations. Just a relaxed, enjoyable day seeing everything we wanted to see with a highly professional driver who made the whole experience effortless. The fact that it was fully customized made all the difference — this wasn’t a cookie-cutter bus tour with stops you didn’t ask for. It was our itinerary, our way. For a group, a private van tour is absolutely worth every yen — and your feet will thank you at the end of the day! Whether you need airport transportation or a full day of exploring, Stanley Trips delivers every single time. We used them multiple times during our trip and they were consistently excellent. Highly, highly recommend!

Exceptional Airport Transportation– highly recommend!

After a long international flight into Narita Airport, the last thing you want is to stress about getting six people and all their luggage to the hotel. Stanley Trips took care of everything seamlessly. They were waiting for us upon arrival with a spacious, comfortable van that fit our entire group of six along with all of our bags — not a tight squeeze in sight. The professionalism was top-notch from start to finish. The ride to our hotel in Tokyo was smooth, comfortable, and completely stress-free — exactly what you need after a long-haul flight. We used them again for our return trip to Narita on June 4th, and they delivered the same outstanding service. We actually had more luggage on the way back (as tends to happen after a trip to Japan!), and once again, the van handled it all without a problem. If you’re traveling to Tokyo and need reliable, professional airport transportation — especially for a larger group — look no further than Stanley Trips. I’d also highly recommend them for tours. We will absolutely be using them again on our next visit. Mahalo, Stanley Trips — you made our trip so much easier!

An Unforgettable Day in Kamakura – ask for Kaku!

We booked the private nine-hour Kamakura Customized Day Tour through Stanley Trip Japan via GoWithGuide, and it was one of the absolute highlights of our entire trip. Our guide/driver Kaku was wonderful — professional, knowledgeable, and a genuine pleasure to spend the day with. Kamakura is such a magical destination, and having a full private day to explore it at our own pace made all the difference. We visited the iconic Great Buddha, which was truly awe-inspiring and exceeded all expectations, strolled through the beautiful Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, and made our way out to the charming island of Enoshima. Kaku guided us seamlessly through all of it, making sure our group of six could take everything in without feeling rushed. If you’re considering a day trip to Kamakura, don’t hesitate — this tour is absolutely worth it. And if you’re lucky enough to have Kokua as your guide, you’re in for a treat. Highly recommend Stanley Trip Japan for anyone visiting the Tokyo area!
