Begin at Sengaku-ji Temple, where the legendary 47 Samurai rest in eternal honor. Offer incense at their graves and immerse yourself in their timeless story of loyalty. Then, just minutes away, the gates of tomorrow open at Takanawa Gateway — Japan's newest district, where architecture meets AI and robotics. Your guide shares insider tips on navigating Tokyo like a local. Two contrasting worlds, yet both represent the real Tokyo. Also perfect for a leisurely first day.

Meet-up at your hotel lobby or any location of your choice within Yokohama or Tokyo's 23 wards.

Train Ride

Sengakuji Temple

Founded in 1612, Sengaku-ji Temple is one of Tokyo's most quietly powerful sites — the burial ground of the legendary 47 Ronin, samurai who sacrificed their lives to avenge their lord in 1703. Walk among their 48 graves, offer incense at each one, and let yourself be transported into the world of warriors who chose loyalty and sacrifice over life itself over 320 years ago. (Incense: ¥300)

Takanawa Shrine

Tucked behind the city's busiest streets, Takanawa Shrine has quietly watched over this district since the Muromachi period — over 500 years ago. Climb the stone steps, leave the noise of modern Tokyo behind, and enter a place of unexpected stillness. What makes this shrine especially remarkable: it is the guardian deity of Takanawa Gateway City, one of Tokyo's most futuristic developments. Ancient faith and cutting-edge innovation, protecting the same ground.

MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives

Designed by Kengo Kuma, this spiral-shaped cultural museum is the crown jewel of the district — wrapped in native Japanese plants and blurring the line between indoors and outdoors. Walk the gentle ramp from floor to floor, exploring everything from traditional Japanese arts to the latest technology, and make your way up to the rooftop garden at the top.

(Please note that special exhibitions may require a separate admission fee)

Ashiyu Terrace & Tsukimi Terrace (MoN Takanawa, 6F — Free)

End your visit the Japanese way. Soak your feet in a free foot bath heated by solar energy, while gazing out over Tokyo Bay. This spot was once a famous moon-viewing location in the Edo period — and looking out across the water today, it's easy to see why.

NEWoMan Takanawa MIMURE (THE LINKPILLAR 2, 1–3F)

A food lover's playground. Artisan bakeries, chocolatiers, gelato labs, and specialty coffee — all gathered in one beautifully designed space. The perfect spot for a break before heading higher.

Takanawa Tsutsumi Gallery (THE LINKPILLAR 2, 1F)

Beneath this ultra-modern district lies a remarkable secret. In 1872, Japan's very first railway ran along this coastline on a stone embankment built into the sea. Rediscovered during construction, the ancient stones are now on display alongside AR and VR recreations of the original railway — a bridge between Japan's first great leap into modernity and its next.

LUFTBAUM Garden (THE LINKPILLAR 1 North, 28–29F)

Take the elevator to over 100 meters above the city and step into a rooftop botanical garden unlike anything you've seen in a shopping complex. Every plant here was carefully selected by craftspeople and growers from across Japan — from Okinawa to the mountains of Kanagawa — with the changing seasons in mind. The immersive sound system, designed exclusively for this space, fills the garden with nature's own soundtrack.

Takanawa Gateway Station

Designed by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma, Takanawa Gateway Station is one of Tokyo's most celebrated architectural landmarks — the first new station added to the Yamanote Line in over 50 years.

The sweeping white roof combines a wood frame with a translucent membrane, evoking the image of traditional Japanese shoji screens. Made from ETFE — a high-performance material that allows natural light to filter through while reflecting heat — the roof is also self-cleaning, using the power of sunlight and rain. Kuma deliberately left a gap between the roof and the curtain wall so the building could "breathe," providing natural ventilation without air-conditioning — and allowing passengers to see the sky from inside the station. At night, the entire structure glows like a traditional Japanese paper lantern.

About Tour Guide Yacco M.

Hi, I’m Yacco, a friendly and passionate local guide. I was born and raised in Shizuoka and have lived in Yokohama for over 30 years. For the past several years, I’ve been guiding international visitors in Kamakura, Yokohama, and Tokyo as a volunteer, helping them discover the rich history, culture, and hidden charm of these unique cities.

Traveling abroad creates once-in-a-lifetime memories, and I would love for you to fully experience the beauty and spirit of my favorite towns.

I not only enjoy showing historical and modern landmarks, but also love introducing quiet backstreets, seasonal flowers, cozy cafés, and delicious local food that reflect the charm of everyday life. What I enjoy most is comparing Japanese traditions with my guests’ own cultures and histories—these conversations often lead to deep and inspiring exchanges.

As your guide, I’m happy to customize tours based on your interests, whether you’re seeking unique experiences, historical insights, or local flavors. Let’s walk, talk, and create unforgettable memories together!

Amazing tour with Yacco

We had the best time with Yacco in Kamakura. She is so thoughtful and caring and put together the best itinerary for our family and arranged all the reservations needed ahead of time. It is obvious she loves having visitors and tailoring a program for their needs and desires. She taught us so much about Kamakura, history in Japan, and also about Japanese culture, religion, and tea ceremonies. This was definitely a highlight of our time in Japan and we HIGHLY recommend Yacco to others wanting to get the most from a trip to Kamakura!

Thank you very much for your heartwarming review, Steven-san! Although our original tour had to be canceled because of the typhoon, I was truly delighted that you booked with me again. It was a great pleasure to show my beloved Kamakura to your wonderful family, including your impressive sons. Being able to share the beauty of Kamakura during the hydrangea season with you all made it a very special and memorable day for me as well. Thank you for your curiosity and kindness throughout the day. I enjoyed every moment we spent together. I wish you and your family all the best. Domo arigatou gozaimashita! Yacco
