“Incredible tour of Kyoto with an excellent tour guide! ”
Hiroko’s tour was the highlight of our Japan trip! We toured over 2 weeks with 4 different guides and Hiroko was by far the best! She was thoughtful and intentional with the itinerary, adjusted easily to our needs (traveling with a 2 year old), and was very knowledgeable about the shrines and temples we visited. If you have a chance to book Hiroko, do it! Her background as a teacher lended well to how she educated us throughout the day. She also used to teach English and was conversational and easy to communicate with. Hiroko was wonderful!

Britnee, I am truly grateful for your kind, generous and quick review. Thank you very much also for sharing your photo with me. All of you are nice and considerate, and your son is cute, active and amazingly well-behaved. You make such a beautiful family! I really enjoyed your company as a guide in Kyoto. Please send my warmest regards to your family for me. All the best, Hiroko

“Fantastic day trip of Kyoto with a true expert”
My family were lucky enough to have Shuji show us around Kyoto on a day trip to all the key sites. Shuji advised us to start early at 7am which was great advice to avoid the crowds and the heat. Shuji has a wealth of knowledge on Japanese history and the key facts at all the spots we stopped. My two daughters in the early 20s and my wife and I found Shuji interesting in a wealth of subjects and we were so happy to spend time with him. If you are looking for a very professional tour guide Shuji has our full recommendation without reservation. Thank you Shuji - it was great having all your help and wisdom - and also your kindness and good humour! Simon

Yes, I was also so happy to spend time with you. This is one of my fondest memories! Despite the heat, we enjoyed exploring the Kiyomizu Temple early in the morning. We ended in the Gion district, which interested you all very much. I was so happy to have such great conversations with you. Thank you very much for telling me all about our favorite, Mark Knopfler!

Absolutely! Kyoto has achieved the perfect balance of remaining close to its historical roots as Japan's original capital, rich in culture and customs, while including modern conveniences and tourist-friendly services. It's one of Japan's most tour-conscious cities, next to Tokyo.
That's a tough one! Kyoto has history, slow living, and breathtaking landscapes. Osaka has fantastic food and modern conveniences and is slightly more affordable.
Osaka is great for;
Kyoto is ideal for;
The greatest thing about these two cities is that they're just a train ride away from one another. So whichever you decide, the other option is only 15 minutes away.
Kyoto is often considered more beautiful than Tokyo because of the visually stunning architecture and Edo period buildings, especially those that highlight the nagare-zukuri style. It’s almost like a time machine. City lovers will consider Tokyo more beautiful thanks to its glowing billboards, high-end hotels, buzzing restaurants, and nightlife. Our recommendation? See both and decide for yourself. Tokyo and Kyoto are only 2 hours apart.
