Kiyomizu-dera is a must-visit temple in Kyoto, renowned for its stunning wooden stage, which stands 13 meters above the ground.
A UNESCO World Heritage site, it holds great historical and cultural significance, having been founded in the 8th century.
I’ve been to Kiyomizu-dera dozens of times, and I hope to visit many more. Its true beauty lies in how the magnificent building seamlessly blends with the surrounding, ever-changing forest. Kiyomizu-dera is a marvel of traditional Japanese wooden architecture and a testament to the deep respect for nature.
Sannenzaka & Ninenzaka
Sannenzaka and Ninnenzaka are two charming, stone-paved streets near Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto, lined with traditional wooden shops, tea houses, and cafés.
These historic alleys are perfect for a scenic stroll and are said to bring good luck—just don’t slip, or you might risk bad luck, according to local legend!
Yasaka Kōshin-dō Temple
Yasaka Kōshin-dō Temple in Kyoto is famous for its wooden statues of the "Three Monkeys," each representing a different virtue: "see no evil," "hear no evil," and "speak no evil."
These monkeys are believed to protect visitors from misfortune.
The temple is also known for its colorful wishing balls, which visitors can write their hopes on and hang at the temple, believing they’ll bring good luck and fulfillment.
This is a different kind of temple, you'll see when you're there, It's a little weird :)
Kodai Ji Temple
Kodaiji Temple, a stunning site known for its elegant Zen gardens and remarkable architecture.
Founded in the 17th century by Nene, the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, this temple honors one of Japan’s most influential leaders who helped unify the country.

About Tour Guide Yakir S.
Hello there :)
My name is yakir and I'm a tour guide in Kyoto.
Before settling down in Japan I've traveled in many Asian countries and for me a big part of any trip to Asia is visiting the local shrines and temples.
Some people are enjoying the night life or restaurants but I'm looking for the atmosphere in an ancient temple where the incents have been burning for hundreds of years and monks are going in silent concentration.
Kyoto is the temple capitol of the world with more than 16,000 different temples and shrines hidden in the city and I just love to find and share the beauty and magic in them.
I've studied Asia studies in Uni and also learned and practiced Chinese medicine, Qi gong and Zen meditation.
I can show you the most Big and Powerful of Kyoto's temple or the quite, unique and serene local shrines.
(I also love running so if you brought your running shoes let me now :)

Bamboo grove and Arashiyama area, three World Heritages.
Arashiyama is the hottest tourist destination. It is incredibly beautiful in spring and fall because of its cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. In the fall, the leaves turn brown or red! In the outstanding Tenryuji, you will see a beautiful garden with beautiful mountains in the background. There are many other beautiful places with touching stories in this area. On the way back to downtown, we can visit two world heritage sites, Kinkakuji and Ryoanji. What a wonderful route!
