Nikko is best known for its vast and rich nature as well as many famous sightseeing spots, including historical shrines and temples which are registered as World Heritage sites. As Nikko used to be the sacred land of mountain worship, many people visit the place for its distinctive mystical atmosphere.

Nikko is famous for beautiful autumnal leaves, so it can be very crowded in October and November. We should avoid visiting on weekends around that period if possible. We may have to skip some places if the traffic is very heavy.
We had a great day in Tokyo with Makiko. We had a full day where we visited some of Tokyo’s highlights. This was our first day of a four day stay in the city and Makiko made us feel comfortable with transportations and helped us with the rituals at shrines & temples. We enjoyed lunch at a small local restaurant and had a wonderful time. This was the perfect way to start our trip. Thanks Makiko!

From the time Makiko met us on the morning of our tour to Kamkura until she dropped us off in the evening back at our hotel in Tokyo, she was fully engaged with us, helping us to understand Japanese history, language and culture while seeing to our needs and wishes. We enjoyed every temple, garden, train ride and meal on our itinerary and also the spontaneous stops into little shops that caught our eye. The bamboo forest was a highlight as was the food hall at the Kamakura train station where we tasted many delicious seasonal Japanese delicacies. Thank you, Makiko!

We had one day in Tokyo and one day inNikko with Makiko and found her very helpful, informative, and punctual. She explained the railway systems clearly, so we found our way to the appropriate stations. She answered questions about Japanese history. She `took very good care of us in Nikko, where it was pouring rain.
