Meeting Point

Your hotel in Takayama or JR Takayama Station

- Pick-up is available from hotels in central Takayama and nearby areas, or JR Takayama Station. Please let me know your hotel name in advance. For accommodation located farther from central Takayama, pick-up may still be possible depending on the location, but prior confirmation and a slight adjustment to the meeting time may be required.

Hirayu Bus Terminal or Akandana Parking Area

We will drive from Takayama to Hirayu Bus Terminal or Akandana Parking Area. Here, we will leave our car and transfer to a pre-booked private taxi to enter Kamikochi, where private vehicles are not permitted.

08:00 AM

Taisho Pond

Begin the nature walk at beautiful Taisho Pond, known for its calm water and views of the surrounding Japanese Alps. We will walk at a comfortable pace while enjoying the scenery and taking photos.

09:00 AM

Tashiro Pond and Azusa River Trail

Walk through peaceful woodland and wetland scenery around Tashiro Pond, then follow the clear Azusa River toward Kappa Bridge. The trail is mostly flat and suitable for visitors with normal walking ability.

10:00 AM

Kappa Bridge

Enjoy one of Kamikochi’s most famous views, surrounded by mountains and the crystal-clear Azusa River. We will have time for a rest, lunch, and exploring the nearby area.

Myojin Pond（Optional）

If the weather, trail conditions, walking pace, and guests’ physical condition allow, we can continue along the trail to Myojin Pond. This part of the walk may be shortened or omitted to keep the tour comfortable and safe.

Kamikochi Bus Terminal

Return to Hirayu by private taxi.

Hirayu Waterfall or Local Hot Spring（Optional）

After returning to Hirayu, we may stop at Hirayu Waterfall or enjoy a relaxing local hot spring, depending on the remaining time and guests’ preference. If we walk to Myojin Pond, this stop may be shortened or omitted.

・For groups of 4–6 guests, private transportation by Toyota Noah or Voxy, Nissan Serena, or a similar minivan, depending on vehicle availability

・Round-trip private taxi between Hirayu and Kamikochi

・Gasoline, toll, and parking fees

What‘s not included

・Lunch and drinks: approximately ¥1,000–3,000 per person

・Myojin Pond admission, if visited: ¥500 per adult and ¥200 per child. Guests are also responsible for the guide’s admission fee.

・Optional hot spring admission: approximately ¥700–1,000 per person

・Towels, personal shopping, and other personal expenses

Tour Important Information

* Kamikochi’s sightseeing season runs from April 17 to November 15. This tour cannot be booked outside this period.

* The basic route from Taisho Pond to Kappa Bridge is about 4 km. Depending on the weather, trail conditions, traffic, transportation, available time, walking pace, and guests’ fitness, the itinerary may be adjusted. We may continue to Myojin Pond, bringing the total walking distance to about 10 km. Myojin Pond is optional and cannot be guaranteed.

* This tour is not wheelchair accessible and may not be suitable for guests with serious walking difficulties or severe knee or back problems.

* Please wear comfortable, non-slip shoes and bring rainwear, water, and an extra layer. Kamikochi may be much cooler than Takayama.

* Mountain views are not guaranteed because the weather can change quickly.

* This tour usually operates in light rain, but the route may be shortened for safety. In the event of severe weather, typhoons, road closures, or transportation suspensions, I will contact you regarding rescheduling or cancellation in accordance with GoWithGuide’s policy.

* If we continue to Myojin Pond, the Hirayu Waterfall or hot spring stop may be shortened or omitted.

* Private vehicles cannot enter Kamikochi. Transportation between Hirayu and Kamikochi is normally by a pre-booked private taxi. If a taxi cannot be arranged, I will contact you in advance to discuss using the shuttle bus instead.

* For four to six guests, a larger vehicle is required between Takayama and Hirayu. Acceptance is subject to vehicle availability.

* The standard tour starts and ends in Takayama and is suitable only for small bags or daypacks.

* For transfers with large luggage starting or ending in Matsumoto, I may be able to create a custom tour depending on vehicle availability. Please contact me before booking.

This tour is available only from April 17 to November 15.

Transportation and vehicle availability will be confirmed before each booking request is accepted.

“A Fabulous Tour with Fabulous Guide ”

We had a fabulous time with George over 2 days exploring Takayama, Shirakawago and Kamikochi. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and our sons looked forward to going out with him. George was great at engaging our boys and giving them quizzes about the areas we visited. George was flexible and attentive to what we were looking for in our trip. The weather was a bit unpredictable and he kept his eye on the possibility of rain and communicated clearly about expectations. We were lucky with the weather and had a little misty day in Shirakawago, but dreamy beautiful weather in Kamikochi! Having a guide was so helpful. A bonus with George is that he is from Takayama he knew the area really well. Our biggest regret was only spending three nights in Takayama. We would have loved to explore more of the area. I would highly recommend booking George for your tour! The more time we spent with him, you could hear his English skills improve the more we chatted. I have no doubt that as he continues to guide he will become even more proficient.
