Take a relaxing urban walk and find your own hidden gems along the Setagaya Line, one of a few existing streetcar lines in Tokyo. You must fall in love with the quiet yet lovely, peaceful atmosphere developed among the local, just like I did.
Check out what we are going to do.
Feel free to personalize this offer.
Setagaya Hachimangu Shrine
Rest at a local cafe
Carrot Tower or Sangenjaya station
The goal of our tour is Sangenjaya, a cozy town loved by both the stylish younger & older generation. It has developed as a commuter town, since it's close to both Shibuya and Shinjuku. My mother used to work in this small town about 30 years ago, so whenever she tells me about the town, I always feel nostalgic as if I was grown up here.
After we meet up at Gotokuji station, then our exploration begins.
Pass along the narrow shopping street while filling your mouth with some snacks. Then you’d realize how many historical gems are scattered along the line! - a shrine which has a sumo wrestling ring, an old tram car monument, a temple famous for numerous beckoning cats, and even a castle park. If you’d like to be a true local, let’s have a chat at a local cafe. I can tell you the sub culture developed among the young, the real shape of Tokyo :)
Once the cute colorful tram arrives at Sangenjaya, let's go to the symbol of the town; the Carrot Tower. It has an amazing observation deck on the 26th floor, my favorite secret place.
Relish in the picturesque scenery of Tokyo while gazing at the gorgeous setting sun.
Transportation fee (you and the guide/ at least ¥500 per person is needed)
Money for foods and drinks (you and the guide/ depending on how much you would like to cost at a cafe, but usually ¥600-¥1500)
This tour is highly recommended for those who prefer peaceful & quiet places.
The length of this tour depends on how long we spend at a cafe; it might take longer than three hours.
You should bring;
- IC card for the tram (The ticket machines for the Setagaya line don’t sell paper train tickets)
- Comfortable clothes and shoes
- Money for a cup of coffee/tea or a sweet, if you'd like to chill at a local cafe with me
- A camera if you are a passionate photographer
- Something to drink (It will be a three-hour tour)
Ai Is a wonderful guide who really goes above and beyond to make sure you get to see and experience what you desire. If you like art, food and shopping then spend your day with Ai. Thank you Ai for accommodating our food wishes and taking the time to research and present all the best options for us to choose from. You knew all the best shopping spots too! Additionally, you made sure we made our last site visit despite being a bit overtime. You are a really lovely person and a caring guide. Thank you :)
Sue, thank you so much for having me as your tour guide. It was my great pleasure to show you around, and I'm really happy to hear that you liked the Tonkatsu restaurant we visited! I hope that you can stay here longer and see more next time you come to Japan. Please take care!
I told Ai that we- ( myself, my husband and our two 20 something sons) were looking to buy higher end Japanese clothing. The boys were also interested in some vintage clothing. We are from San Francisco area and weren’t interested in Gucci etc.. since we have those brands here. We booked 6 hours to shop and have lunch. She took us to Parco in the Shabuya area. I think I have that right. We loved it! Amazing! Just what we were looking for! There were Japanese brands, European brands and we loved the atmosphere. We had sushi at a very yummy restaurant. Walked the side streets and headed to the vintage area. My son found the designer he had read about who makes handmade jackets and was thrilled to buy one. The day was amazing. We went To Ginza on our own to shop the next day,but realized Ai had shown us the best places. A few days later we were back at Parco making our final purchases before heading to Kyoto. Ai was fun and patient and knows a lot about Tokyo not just about shopping. I wouldn’t hesitate to use her. She’s great!
Susannah, It was my pleasure to show you and your wonderful family around and help you with your shopping. I'm happy to hear that you really liked the places we went together! You were really amazing guests and I would love to guide you again if you are every back in Tokyo! Have a nice day & happy new year! Ai
This was my first time to Tokyo (and Japan) so I decided to book a tour with Ai to get a good introduction to this amazing city. The booking process was very easy and Ai proposed a tour which was flexible to my needs. She met me promptly at my hotel at the designated time and we then proceeded to make our way around Tokyo. Ai was very polite and helpful, pointing out interesting facts along the way. The highlight of the day being our stop for lunch to make okonomiyaki (you must try this!) It was a full on day with lots of photos being taken, I have no hesitation in recommending Ai if you’re looking for a value for money tour of Tokyo!
Jason, thank you so much for choosing me as your tour guide! I was really honored to guide you, I also really enjoyed talking to you :) I hope you'll enjoy the rest of your trip in Tokyo, please have safe flights!
Ai was an amazing tour guide with lots of effort being paid to details before the trip via message exchange, as well as during the trip to the different locations we ended up being at. We were concerned with the food and subculture elements of Tokyo for this tour, rather than the historical elements. Ai was very concerned with ensuring our tour made the most of our time in Tokyo by learning about our interests ahead of time. The tour was very much like a friend showing us around town, and was very comfortable. She has traveled to many prefectures in Japan, and has an interest in other cultures as well. I would recommend Ai to others if they found themselves in Tokyo.
Thank you so much for choosing me as your tour guide! I was really honored to guide you all. You seemed to enjoy the places we went to, so I was glad. I hope you can come back to Japan again!
