Discover Tokyo beyond the guidebooks with a local who has called Japan home for 26 years.

Explore famous landmarks and peaceful neighborhoods while discovering Japanese history, Shinto, Buddhism, daily life and food culture.

The itinerary is flexible and can be adapted to your interests, the season and the weather.

My transportation costs are included in the tour price.

Guests only pay for their own transportation, meals and entrance fees.

Itinerary

This itinerary can be customized to meet your needs and preferences. Send me a message with your requests!

09:00 AM

Meeting Point

Meet at your hotel (or Ueno Station)

09:30 AM

Ueno Park

Ueno Park combines history, culture and everyday Tokyo life.

We may visit historic temples and shrines, learn about the Tokugawa Shogun period and enjoy the seasonal atmosphere, especially during cherry blossom season.

11:00 AM

Yanaka

Yanaka is one of the few neighborhoods where the atmosphere of old Tokyo is still preserved. We will walk through quiet streets, traditional shops, temples and the historic cemetery while discovering local life away from the busiest tourist areas. HIDDEN GEMS unknown HERE!

12:00 PM

Nezu Shrine

Nezu Shrine is one of Tokyo’s most beautiful and historic Shinto shrines.

Besides its beautiful vermilion torii gates, it is especially famous for the

Tsutsuji Festival, when more than 3,000 azalea bushes bloom in vibrant colors from April to early May, creating one of Tokyo's most beautiful spring landscapes.

I will explain the role of kami, Inari worship and basic Shinto traditions.

01:00 PM

LUNCH

We will stop at a local restaurant selected according to your preferences.

As a professional chef, I can also help you understand Japanese ingredients, dishes and dining customs.

02:30 PM

Meiji Jingu Shrine

Hidden inside a large forest, Meiji Jingu offers a complete contrast to the energy of central Tokyo. We will discover the shrine’s history, purification rituals and the importance of Emperor Meiji in modern Japanese history.

If we're lucky, we may even witness a traditional Shinto wedding ceremony.

03:40 PM

Harajuku and Takeshita Street

Harajuku represents Tokyo’s youthful and creative side.

We will explore Takeshita Street, see Japanese street food, pop culture and fashion, and experience the contrast between the peaceful shrine and the lively neighborhood.

04:30 PM

OMOTESANDO

Often described as Tokyo’s Champs-Élysées, Omotesando is known for modern architecture, fashion and stylish cafés.

It is a good place to finish the day while seeing another face of contemporary Tokyo.

Ending Point

The tour can finish in Omotesando, Harajuku or another convenient location like Shibuya Crossing. I will be happy to help you with directions, restaurant recommendations or your next destination.

About Tour Guide Nicolas M.

Hello! I am a French guide who has been living in Japan for over 26 years.

I am passionate about Japanese history, culture, traditions and everyday life. My goal is not only to show you famous landmarks, but also to help you understand the stories, customs and way of thinking that make Japan so unique.

I speak French, Japanese and English, which allows me to communicate easily with both visitors and local people.

I offer private tours in Tokyo, Kamakura, Hakone, all regions in Kanto like Kawaguchiko, unknown places with a wonderful view of Mont Fuji from Shuzenji, Yokohama and the beautiful coastal town of Hayama. Whether you are visiting Japan for the first time or returning to discover hidden places, I will adapt each tour to your interests and pace.

Before becoming a full-time guide, I worked as a French pastry chef in Japan for many years. This experience has given me a deep appreciation of Japanese craftsmanship, hospitality and attention to detail.

I enjoy sharing history, local stories, food culture and practical insights that you won’t always find in guidebooks.

I look forward to helping you create unforgettable memories during your trip to Japan!
