Tsurugaoka Hachimangu
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu is one of Kamakura's most significant and historic landmarks, founded in 1063 and becoming the spiritual center of the Kamakura shogunate during the Kamakura period (1185-1333). Dedicated to Hachiman, the protector of samurai, the shrine played a key role in the political and military life of the era. Its grandeur is reflected in the beautiful approach lined with torii gates, serene gardens, and the main hall, offering a glimpse into Kamakura’s rich history and culture.

The temple grounds feature stunning gardens, offering scenic views of Kamakura and the coast. A unique aspect of Hasedera is its series of caves, known as the Jizo-do, where hundreds of small Jizo statues are enshrined. These caves were used by early pilgrims and provide a tranquil, spiritual atmosphere. Throughout the Kamakura period, Hasedera played a vital role in the city’s spiritual life and continues to be a must-visit for its rich history and serene beauty.
Great Buddha of Kamakura

This towering bronze statue, standing at over 13 meters tall, depicts Amida Buddha and has stood since 1252. Originally housed in a temple building, the statue now sits outdoors, offering a majestic and serene presence. “Incredible Tour with such thoughtfulness”
I went to Tokyo with my 12 year old son, so just the two of us. I gave Jaime a few ideas of what we were interested in and he created an incredible custom tour for 10 hours! Then the day before I realized I wanted to start at Tsukiji Market and asked if we could play our itinerary by ear due to not knowing what my son would be able to handle. Jaime was so understanding and accommodating. He gave us tips that helped us throughout our entire trip and I've shared with. Without his help we would have missed so many little stands and stalls and interesting off the beaten path areas. At one point I mentioned how could we get Pokemon cards and he responded that we should go right then as it was on the route to our next stop and had just opened. We were in and out with exactly what we wanted so quickly, all thanks to Jaime. We explored multiple markets, were able to try so many different types of food all with his help and guidance. Our lunch stop I still crave! Jaime has a true appreciation for culture and the history and connection to the older generation. We went to tiny shops run by grandma's that would share stories with us and he would translate. I loved this! Not only did he take us to quiet areas with no tourists, he also took us to the very crowded popular sites. Having Jaime take us through Harajuku was a huge relief, he showed us some great shopping stores and places to eat and the best spot for a view. When we came back to the area it was nice to already feel comfortable. Some of my favorite spots were places Jaime took us to. I wish he could have been with us every day. I highly recommend booking a tour with Jaime and let him guide you, you will have an unforgettable day!

“Fun, Professional and Easy Planning!”
Jaime worked with us to customize his anime/Otaku culture tour to also include some shrines and neighborhood markets. We unfortunately caught a rainy day, but took breaks to duck into shops, and enjoy some tea and snacks. Highly recommend Jaime for his local knowledge, language skills and great communication leading up to the tour.
