Kamakura is where Japan’s spiritual roots quietly remain.

Once the political heart of the country, today it is a coastal town where temples, daily life, and nature coexist at a human pace.

This 7-hour day trip by train is designed not to rush through sights, but to understand why this place still matters to Japanese people.

Your guide walks beside you as a local companion, connecting history, belief, and everyday life into one continuous story.

Meeting Point

Your Hotel Lobby (in Tokyo)

- Your guide meets you in the hotel lobby or at the main entrance. We travel together by train to Kamakura, enjoying the change from city to seaside town.

Kotoku-in (Great Buddha of Kamakura)

Visit the iconic Great Buddha, standing quietly in the open air.

Rather than focusing only on size or age, your guide explains what this statue represents and why calmness is such an important value in Japanese Buddhism.

Hasedera Temple

A temple overlooking the sea, known for compassion and reflection.

Walk through gardens, halls, and viewpoints while learning how temples function as emotional support spaces in Japanese society.

Local Lunch in Kamakura

Lunch at a locally loved restaurant.

Kamakura’s food culture reflects simplicity and seasonality, closely tied to everyday life rather than tourism.

Tsuruoka Hachimangu

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu is the most important shrine in Kamakura, where you can experience the city’s samurai history and the foundations of Shinto culture.

Kamakura Streets & Seaside Pause

A short walk through residential streets or a brief stop near the coast.

This final moment ties temples and daily life together, showing Kamakura not as a museum, but as a living town.

About Tour Guide Rene F.

KONNICHIWA! I am Rene. I studied commerce and marketing at university and have already graduated. I also studied abroad in France, where I was deeply inspired by the positivity and openness of people from different cultures. Through that experience, I discovered the joy of connecting with others beyond language and cultural barriers.

Now, as a guide in Japan, I hope to share the authentic beauty and warmth of this country with visitors from around the world, while supporting and inspiring them during their journey!!!

Temples, neighbourhoods, food and shopping: East Tokyo

Thank you very much to Rene for a great first day in Tokyo and in Japan. I had a tight schedule and wanted to make the most of my day. Rene guided me to four sights and more, without being rushed, and with plenty of time to absorb everything. She is a happy and extrovert personality. And was eager to share her knowledge and thoughts/ contrast Japanese culture with European. She was also able to help me with shopping for gifts. And practical advice, such as how to find your way around the Tokyo public transport system. And she clearly has good knowledge of great restaurants, that are real Japanese traditional places, with delicious food. Thank you for a great day out.

Thank you very much for your kind and thoughtful review. It was truly a pleasure spending your first day in Tokyo with you. I’m so glad we were able to make the most of your time and that you enjoyed the sights, culture, food, and shopping. I really appreciated our conversations and your perspective as well. I hope the rest of your trip in Japan was wonderful, and I would be delighted to guide you again in the future. Warm regards, Rene

Multiple Tours with Go With Guide

On a solo trip to Tokyo, I was fortunate to book a couple of tours with GoWithGuide. I went on tours with Rene, with Kody, and also with both of them together — and every single experience was outstanding. Japan, and Tokyo in particular, can be challenging to navigate as a foreigner, especially if you want to get beyond the standard tourist spots. That’s where these guides truly stand out. From the moment they picked me up at my hotel, everything was taken care of. The organization was flawless, yet the atmosphere was very relaxed, friendly, and informal. I joined a Food & Drink tour, day trips to Kamakura and Kawagoe, and a Mount Fuji trip. Each tour felt personal and well thought out, taking me to hidden spots I never would have found on my own. On top of that, there was a lot of fun and laughter along the way — it never felt like a “guided tour,” more like exploring Tokyo with knowledgeable local friends. If you’re traveling solo or simply want a stress-free, authentic, and enjoyable way to discover Tokyo and its surroundings, I can’t recommend GoWithGuide — and especially Rene and Kody — highly enough. Truly next level.

Dear Geert, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! I truly had a great time as well, and the tour was very special to me. Being able to spend time with you in Japan as a local friend was a real pleasure. Even though it was quite cold, I hope it became a memorable experience for you ;) Next time, please come back with your family. I’d be more than happy to show you some new places together. Thank you again, and I hope to see you again soon! Warm regards, Rene
