Tokyo’s east side is where everyday life and memory quietly remain.

This journey follows the rhythm of older Tokyo — temples still woven into daily routines, neighborhoods shaped by long relationships, and streets where time moves gently.

You walk through places that have survived change not by resisting it, but by absorbing it.

Your guide walks beside you not as a lecturer, but as someone who knows these streets — letting stories surface naturally through place, pause, and conversation.

Meeting Point

Your Hotel Lobby in Tokyo

- Your guide meets you in the lobby or at the main entrance. We start slowly, allowing the city to unfold rather than rushing into it.

Senso-ji Temple — Where Tokyo Begins

Tokyo’s oldest temple, but also a place of everyday prayer.

As you walk through the grounds and surrounding streets, your guide explains how faith, festivals, and community still shape local life here — not as history, but as routine.

Local Lunch — Simple, Familiar, Honest

Lunch at a long-established local restaurant.

No performance, no trend — just food that fits daily life.

Through this meal, you experience how “ordinary” becomes meaningful in Japan.

Yanaka — A Neighborhood That Remembers

Narrow streets, family-run shops, and familiar faces.

Yanaka escaped war and redevelopment, preserving a human-scale Tokyo.

Walking here feels less like sightseeing and more like being allowed into someone’s neighborhood.

Nezu Shrine

Historic shrine with a calm atmosphere despite its central Tokyo location. Known for its beautiful vermilion torii gates, making it a pleasant place for a relaxed walk.

(Option) Ueno Park — Public Space, Shared Life

A park that belongs to everyone.

Families, students, elders, artists — all sharing the same space.

Your guide explains how public places function as social glue in Japanese cities.

(Option) Kiyosumi Garden — Quiet Reflection

A traditional strolling garden designed for slowing down.

This final stop brings the day back to stillness — connecting faith, community, and everyday life into a single feeling rather than a conclusion.

About Tour Guide Rene F.

KONNICHIWA! I am Rene. I studied commerce and marketing at university and have already graduated. I also studied abroad in France, where I was deeply inspired by the positivity and openness of people from different cultures. Through that experience, I discovered the joy of connecting with others beyond language and cultural barriers.

Now, as a guide in Japan, I hope to share the authentic beauty and warmth of this country with visitors from around the world, while supporting and inspiring them during their journey!!!

Temples, neighbourhoods, food and shopping: East Tokyo

Thank you very much to Rene for a great first day in Tokyo and in Japan. I had a tight schedule and wanted to make the most of my day. Rene guided me to four sights and more, without being rushed, and with plenty of time to absorb everything. She is a happy and extrovert personality. And was eager to share her knowledge and thoughts/ contrast Japanese culture with European. She was also able to help me with shopping for gifts. And practical advice, such as how to find your way around the Tokyo public transport system. And she clearly has good knowledge of great restaurants, that are real Japanese traditional places, with delicious food. Thank you for a great day out.

Thank you very much for your kind and thoughtful review. It was truly a pleasure spending your first day in Tokyo with you. I’m so glad we were able to make the most of your time and that you enjoyed the sights, culture, food, and shopping. I really appreciated our conversations and your perspective as well. I hope the rest of your trip in Japan was wonderful, and I would be delighted to guide you again in the future. Warm regards, Rene

Multiple Tours with Go With Guide

On a solo trip to Tokyo, I was fortunate to book a couple of tours with GoWithGuide. I went on tours with Rene, with Kody, and also with both of them together — and every single experience was outstanding. Japan, and Tokyo in particular, can be challenging to navigate as a foreigner, especially if you want to get beyond the standard tourist spots. That’s where these guides truly stand out. From the moment they picked me up at my hotel, everything was taken care of. The organization was flawless, yet the atmosphere was very relaxed, friendly, and informal. I joined a Food & Drink tour, day trips to Kamakura and Kawagoe, and a Mount Fuji trip. Each tour felt personal and well thought out, taking me to hidden spots I never would have found on my own. On top of that, there was a lot of fun and laughter along the way — it never felt like a “guided tour,” more like exploring Tokyo with knowledgeable local friends. If you’re traveling solo or simply want a stress-free, authentic, and enjoyable way to discover Tokyo and its surroundings, I can’t recommend GoWithGuide — and especially Rene and Kody — highly enough. Truly next level.

Dear Geert, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! I truly had a great time as well, and the tour was very special to me. Being able to spend time with you in Japan as a local friend was a real pleasure. Even though it was quite cold, I hope it became a memorable experience for you ;) Next time, please come back with your family. I’d be more than happy to show you some new places together. Thank you again, and I hope to see you again soon! Warm regards, Rene
