About Tour Guide Melody S.

Hi! I’m a nationally licensed tour guide with in-depth knowledge of Japanese culture, history, and geography.

I was born in a suburb and raised in Tokyo, which gives me both a local and metropolitan perspective on Japan.

I studied abroad in the US and the UK, where I met wonderful people from all over the world and developed a truly global mindset.

Before becoming a full-time guide, I worked as an IT engineer, hotel receptionist, and manager of a maid cafe—experiences that help me connect naturally with travelers from many different backgrounds.

Reviews

Excellent guide even in troubled weather

We booked with Melody for a Hakone tour at the last minute due to a canceled tour with another guide. It turned out to be a very positive twist of fate. Melody asked questions and made recommendations to give us a great custom tour. The weather turned very bad, with storms and heavy rain. But with Melody's guidance,we still had a very pleasant, albeit wet day. He never once complained or suggested we cut the tour short. He was a trooper who did everything he could to makes it as fulfilling a tour as possible. He also has a very good grasp of history and is very willing to share and educate his clients. Thanks again Melody. I'm sure this is a tour neither of us will forget.

Eddie, thank you very much for the wonderful review! Meeting you both was such a wonderful surprise. We visited Owakudani, Lake Ashi, the Hakone Checkpoint, and Hakone Shrine. The ropeway ride in the rain and storm was quite an adventure! For lunch, we enjoyed tonkatsu, hitsumabushi, and seiro-mushi. I will never forget such a unique trip and the wonderful day we spent together. I sincerely hope you make many more amazing memories during the rest of your time in Japan! Until we meet again!

Amazing first day in Tokyo

Our tour with Melody was fantastic. We are a family of four (with two young adult kids) traveling to Japan for the first time. Melody took us on a tour our first full day in Tokyo and it was amazing. He had excellent communication leading up to the tour day. We created a general plan for the day but he was very flexible during the actual tour day. He adjusted and tailored the tour to our interests and his expertise. He was very knowledgeable, very friendly, and made the whole day an extremely fun and memorable experience. He was very generous with his time and incredibly helpful. We will all cherish our time we spent with him. I can’t recommend him highly enough. I only wish we were able to spend more time with him. Thank you Melody!

Rodney, thank you very much for your heartwarming review and beautiful pictures! We had such a wonderful day together. In Asakusa, you bought authentic kimono and ukiyo-e prints, and in Akihabara, we enjoyed capsule toys and anime figures, and even visited a maid cafe. And of course, the ramen, gyoza, and beer were amazing! We also visited Meiji Shrine and Takeshita Street. As someone who loves art myself, I was truly impressed by your family’s passion for art. Even now, thinking back on the memories we made together brings a smile to my face. Until we meet again, I wish you and your wonderful family all the best. Take care, and I hope to see you again someday!

Fab’ guide to recommend

Came with a group of 9pax. Melody was absolutely lovely. He suggested the program and even though it was a hot day in Kamakura, we visited a lot of temples and he gave us ideas for lunch and how to spend the afternoon as well. He has a lot of knowledge and made it suitable to my group in the 20s/30s. Everyone loved him. Do yourself a favor and book a tour with this great, kind, knowledgeable, flexible and lovely person!

Thank you, Sarah! Your group ended up being bigger than when you first booked the tour. Guiding a large group can be a little challenging, but at the same time, it makes the tour lively and a lot of fun. Since our itinerary included quite a few shrines and temples, I was a little worried that some guests might get bored, but I was very happy to see that everyone enjoyed the tour very much. It was also my pleasure to answer so many questions about Japanese culture. I hope you all continue to have a wonderful time in Japan!
