Hello everyone! Many thanks for checking out my profile. I'm originally from New Zealand but have spent my adult life here in Japan. The Nagoya area has been my home since the early nineties. I have witnessed the region's transformation from a sleepy industrial city to the vibrant metropolis of today. I would love the opportunity to tell you about some of my adventures and also a few of the outstanding people I've met. I spent many years practicing karate and have also developed a deep interest in Buddhism. I speak Japanese confidently. I'm new to GoWithGuide but have previous experience giving walking tours. To be able to introduce you to a few of my favourite Nagoya suburbs would be a treat. There are fascinating, historic temples as well as a stupa that purportedly contains a portion of the Buddha's ashes. Also, there are numerous tempting eateries and a few quirky shops. I prefer guiding guests around these less visited areas as you can get a feel for how the locals live. I look forward to meeting you soon.

Konnichiwa - - - Charley here. Originally, I grew up in Los Angeles and San Diego for the first quarter century of my life. In 2000, I moved to Aichi Prefecture, Japan. One of my main goals was to play music with Japanese musicians, particularly in the underground music scene, which I've been a part of throughout my life. Also, I wanted to enjoy and explore the beauty of living in a foreign country. I've been living here for 25 years, and can gladly say that I have been engaged thoroughly in both of those goals. Since the beginning of moving to Japan, I've always chosen to hang out and engage with Japanese people as opposed to other foreigners. I often find myself in izakaiyas and concert events where I am the only foreigner, but fortunately I am on good terms with the staff and other customers. Eat, drink, and discern like a local !
Nagoya city is well known for it's tasty local dishes. Red miso is the go to flavor for many dishes like miso katsu, doteni and doteyaki, miso nikomi udon, and of course, miso soup. Also, there are many local izakaiyas and yakitori (grilled chicken) shops all over the city. Personally, I am most familiar with the Osu-Kannon and Nagoya station areas. Not a fan of large chain shops, so I will show you the truly local shops.

“Highlight Tour of Nagoya”
I had such a lovely time with Tommie on my solo trip to Nagoya! She was extremely knowledgeable about the city and places we visited, and had answers to all of my random little questions I asked. She took me to many places in the time that we had and always made sure I was comfortable. I told her I enjoyed nature, so she took me to a tea house and garden which was beautiful. She even recommended some food places for me to try after our tour, which I visited afterwards and had the best meal of my entire trip. Thank you so much, Tommie! I enjoyed talking and spending time with you. I recommend her to anyone visiting Nagoya!

“A Perfect Guide for Nagoya!”
