I am Fumie Ueda, a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter in Atami, Shizuoka, only 50 minutes away from Tokyo by Shinkansen trains. Atami is conveniently located at the foot of the Hakone mountains, and the base of the Izu Peninsula. It is also close to Mt. Fuji and the Shimizu Port in Shizuoka. I am excited to show you around beautiful places that I love. I grew up in Yokohama, spent 1 year as a high school exchange student in Allentown, PA in the US, went to college and lived/worked in Tokyo for about 10 years before coming to this beautiful onsen resort. After becoming a guide, I met with guests from various backgrounds, and I feel grateful once again, for my experience to be exposed to different cultures in my youth. Let’s have a good time together!

Welcome to Shizuoka in the central area of Japan. I was born in Hakone, Kanagawa Pref. and grew up in Izu Peninsula, also studied English at Kanagawa University in Yokohama. After graduation, I have traveled to a lot of countries such as Europe, U, S., Asia and lived in Australia for a year. I had a great time to visit there to have a wonderful experience. So I decided to become a licensed tour guide for introducing Japan to foreign tourists. Now I live in Izu which is close to Mt.Fuji and Hakone. I'm interested in Arts, Hot Springs, traditional places and of course delicious food. Makinohara plateau, Japan's largest tea plantation was surprisingly cultivated by samurai about 150 years ago. By visiting the tea museum there to learn everything about tea and experience tea ceremony. Then, we'll visit Chagu'sba Terrace to enjoy a refreshing view of tea fields. Their eco-friendly tea production method has been designated as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System. The area also has an old shrine which had been patronized by Shogun Family and the towns had been developed under the reign. If you are a great tea lover, the tour will be recommended!

“Fantastic Tour!”
Outstanding tour with Moto. Extremely knowledgeable and personable. Was able to design an itinerary that avoided crowds and maximized the day. As an accomplished mountaineering guide who grew up in the area, Moto has interesting stories and perspectives.

“I would love to go with Fumie again!”
Fumie took us to places we definitely couldn't go without her and enriched our Atami adventure tremendously. She also had to pivot due to circumstances beyond our control and she did so with grace and professionalism. It was a wonderful and memorable day. I'd like to go with her again and do another layer of the sites and history of the area.

“Great experience with Hiroyo”
Hiroyo was very helpful throughout the tour, from the planning phase and on the tour day. She gave me some great advice on what to do and where to go, and also helped me to arrange everything. She even brought a little cute souvenir on the day, which was a happy surprise. I would recommend anyone to have Hiroyo as your guide! A wonderful time will be guaranteed!
