What to Expect

Tofuku-ji is the first place we visit on this tour. It is a large Zen Temple where the spouses of G20 guys recently visited and enjoyed its gardens during G-20 Osaka Summit in June, 2019. In addition to their gardens, three wooden bridges are interesting as one of the pictures shows. They have many many visitors as their maple trees aflame red leaves.

And then we head for Fushimi Inari Shrine. This shrine is one of the most popular sites in Kyoto. People go there to pray for their success in business and schoolwork, well-being of their family, healthy growth of their children, and good match for their marriage, etc.. People have different reasons to visit the shrine. Thousands of vermilion colored Torii Gates are amazing. After going through these Torii gates, we go to Uji city.

Uji is a neighboring city of Kyoto, and the city is famous for their scenic beauties, and the production of Green Tea. There are a lot of tea shops on the street. You may want to drop in one or two. If you want to experience a tea ceremony, you can attend a tea ceremony held at a Tea House near Uji river. Phoenix Hall and Ujigami Shrine are located in the same area, and they are designated as UNESCO Word Heritage Sites.

Historical Kyoto

Toshi met us at the cruise port in Osaka and with him we effortlessly navigated our way to and around Kyoto. We had a full day itinerary and met most of our highlighted points of interest. The day was longer than anticipated and Toshi stayed with us to the end, returning us to the port in plenty of time to get back on board. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and would not have been able to see what we did, if we had done this ourselves. In addition, having a guide such as Toshi who has the local and historical knowledge, enriched our experience and meant that the adventure was much deeper. Toshi himself is a genuinely lovely man with interesting experiences and we wish him the best for the future. When we return to Japan, we will definitely engage Toshi, this time for the Osaka experience.

Toshi M.

Hi Jim, Thank you so much for your nice review. I myself had a such a fun day, guiding you guys in Kyoto. I’m hoping that any of you comes back to Japan again. Belated “ A Happy New Year! ” to you all. Best regards, Toshi
