A long-time resident of Niigata and avid cyclist, I have explored on two wheels the prefecture's areas of natural beauty and cultural interest on routes that only a local guide would know. As such, I offer custom cycling tours to travelers who want to get off the beaten track.
This itinerary can be customized to meet your needs and preferences. Send me a message with your requests!
Niigata Station
- Meet in front of the station, Bandai Exit.
We'll visit an historic spa town and enjoy the free foot bath.
Some 40 kilometers from the spa, much of the ride through scenic mountainous countryside, we come to a hamlet in the hills, home to a fine old temple and grove of majestic cedars.
Once off the mountain, we'll enjoy a well-deserved rest in a park noted for its cherry trees before the final push to Niigata City.
The tour concludes when we arrive at Niigata Station.

Guide fee
Bike, helmets cycling gear, spare tubes, supplies (food, drink)
The guests will provide their own bicycles, helmets, and repair kit, including spare tubes. While there will be opportunities (limited) to purchase food and drink en route, guests are encouraged to pack supplies. This is a custom tour, so I will need to know customer's requests regarding appropriate distance and difficulty level.
I am available to guide clients outside of the areas specified if my transportation is covered.
Hi. I am from Louisiana, USA, but Niigata has been my (and my family's) home for nearly 25 years. I've explored both the city and the prefecture extensively, learning about local history, culture, and food, and I'd love the opportunity to share these with you.
“"Exceptional Service and Support Even During Unexpected Events"”
We used Brian's service for our client in Kanazawa, Shirakawago, and, initially, the Takayama area. Communication was excellent, and the clients were very satisfied with his services. On January 1st, a significant earthquake occurred in Ishikawa. The original plan was for the clients to explore Takayama, end the tour in Kanazawa, and return to Tokyo on the evening of the 2nd. However, due to the earthquake's impact, the car couldn't reach Kanazawa as the highway was closed, and the shinkansen (bullet train) services were halted indefinitely. After discussing the situation and obtaining the client's agreement, we decided to change the route to Nagoya and then back to Tokyo via Nagoya. Throughout this challenging time, Brian provided invaluable support to the clients on the spot and even accompanied them to Tokyo. We highly recommend Brian for his exceptional assistance and service even during unexpected circumstances. Thank you, Brian!
