Kawagoe different experience from Tokyo!
Kawagoe was very important city for Tokugawa shogunate to protect northern direction of Edo castle from the 17th to the 19th century. Therefore, it is called Koedo, literally means small Edo. It has developed independently since Meiji restoration in 1868, so this unique city must attract you. You can experience something different from Tokyo.

Kawagoe Hikawa shrine
It is famous shrine for a god of marriage and love. You can experience Hitogata, sacred tree, tunnel with Ema and paper fortune called Aitai-mikuji. The cherry trees planted along Shingashi river behind the shrine give you the great view in spring season.
Kawagoe Festival Museum
Kawagoe festival is held in October in honor of Kawagoe Hikawa shrine. The large floats with decoration go around the town and local people make a performance with music instruments on the stage on it. Two large floats are displayed in this museum.
Lunch
You take a lunch at Inari-koji small alley or Kurazukuri street.
Bell Tower and Kurazukuri style buildings
Bell Tower is symbol of Kawagoe. It has announced the time necessary to people since the beginning of Edo period. Kurazukuri style buildings covered with black colored plaster and with Udatsu for fire protection bring about different atmosphere from Edo.
Kitain temple
This Buddhist temple has a special building moved from Edo castle. It is characterized by the delicate and splendid rooms with ornaments you can observe how nice and elegant inside of the Edo castle was. You can feel graceful life of Tokugawa shogun family.
Kawagoe Kumano shrine
It is very unique shrine like an amusement park. Let‘s try to check your condition and your luck at the end of more than 10,000 steps tour. Cute Yatagarasu, three-legged crow, is waiting for you.

◆ Kawagoe Festival Museum is closed on the second and fourth Wednesday. At that time, you will visit Kawagoe Castle Honmaru Residence or Koedo Kururi as an
alternative spot.
