Small art/history museums in Aoyama/Ebisu area
This tour will cover small museums of art, modern art, Japanese paintings and old history of Japan in Tokyo. Also Japanse garden is in one of the museums.
This area- Minami Aoyama and Ebisu- is located close to Shibuya and Omotesando but it is calm, quiet and ralaxed area.
You might be able to find another face of Tokyo, a little bit different from Asakusa Shibuya,or Shinjuku.
As those museums are located in walking distance, tour itinerary can be adjusted to meet your interests.

Nezu museum
This museum's collection of more than 7,600 Japanese East Asian works of art includes seven works designated at National Treasures, 93 Important Cultural Properties, and 95 Important Art Objects. There are Regular Exhibition and Special Exhibition.
Also the handsome trees, trees and scattered tea houses in the 17,000 square meter Japanese garden behind the museum. You can have a bowl of matcha at the one of the tea houses or NEZUCAFE.
This museum is closed on Monday.

We will have lunch arond Minama Aoyama area. There are wide varieties of good restaurants or caffes around this area.
List of cafes or restaurants will be prepared for your convinience.

Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum
Who is Taro Okamoto? He was born in 1911 and died in 1996 age of 84.
His most famous work was Theme Producer for the World Expo 1970 which was held in Japan. He designed a seventy-meter tall monumental Taiyo-no-to (Tower of the Sun) and drove it straight through the center of the site becoming the country's largest and most dynamic icon. There are no Japanese at that time who do not know Taro Okamoto's Towe of the Sun.
He was the only Japanese avant-garde artist ever reach the hearts of the general public.
This buiding that served Taro Okamoto as both home and studio for forty-two years was opened to the public in 1998.
We can feel his passion, energy and power through viewing, standing and breathing the air in the rooms and the small garden.
Note; When we get in the building to see a studio or exhibition rooms,
we need to take off our shoes.
This museum is closed on Tuesday.
YOKU MOKU Museum
YOKU MOKU is a major confectionary company in Japan.
The founder of the company said " The confectionary should be creative." and began collecting Picasso's ceramic work.
The YOKU MOKU Museum is one that displays in depth a collection of more than 500 ceramic works by Pabro Picasso.
This collection includes limited-edition of bowls, pitchers, tablewears,and platters. Everything is included here, displaying an unparalleled record of Picasso's creativity in clay. You can closely see Picasso's finger touches.
This museum is closed on Monday.
Kokugakuin University Museum
In this museum 3 departments and concepts are presented as Permanent Exhibition.
First one is Archaeology. In this section archaeological materials collected by the university since its founding are presented.
Second one is Shinto,which is Japan original religion since ancient days. This exhibition focuses on the rites or "matsuri" that have been conducted throughout Japan at local Shinto shrines (jinja)-the place of prayer.
Third one is Kokugakuin Archives. The exhibition follows historical development of Kokugakuin by looking to the history of National Learning.
Through these exhibitions we are able to explore the soul of Japanese culture and it's history.
This museum is closed on Monday and dedicated days for exhibition change.
Hanawa Hokiichi resouce center
Hanawa Hokiichi(1746-1821) is a famous blind scholar of Japan.
He complied "Gunsho-Ruijyu"(Great collection of old documents in Japan) despite his inability to see.
In this resource center, original wooden printing blocks are kept still in use.
Total numer of blocks are 17,244 pieces for about 34,000 pages of prints.
We can see a storage room filled with wooden printing blocks and a curator will show us and explain about a real printing block.
Yamatane Museum of Art
This museum, the first in Japan to specialize in "nihonga", opened in 1966.
What is "nihonga"?
Nihonga is an art form using mineral pigments, washi paper, and other natural materials. Valuing the beauty of nature and the sense of the seasons, in its subjects and styles, nihonga reflects the traditional Japanese aesthetic cultivated through living in harmony with nature.
Exhibitions are changed almost every 2 months, each exhibition has its own theme as "A world of flowers",or "Selected muster pieces from Yamatane collection", etc.
Between those exhibitions, the museum will be closed. We need to confirm the exhibition schedule.
Also it is closed on Monday.
