Meeting Point
The lobby of the hotel
- I will pick you up at your hotel. Otherwise, you can decide where to start somewhere in Tokyo.
Ueno Park
The tour will visit Ueno Toshogu Shrine, with its gorgeous gold ornaments dedicated to the founder of the Edo Shogunate, Prince Tokugawa Ieyasu; Shimizu Kannon-do Temple, which overlooks Shinobazu Pond and offers beautiful views; and the statue of Saigo Takamori, who was active from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji Restoration and contributed greatly to the modernization of Japan. Ueno Park is one of Tokyo's most popular and vibrant cherry blossom viewing spots, with more than 1,000 cherry trees lining the central pathway.
Ameya-Yokocho Market
Ameya-Yokocho is a lively street market that runs alongside the railway tracks between JR Ueno Station and Okachimachi Station. The street features a huge variety of small retail businesses selling seafood, fruits and vegetables, general groceries, discount clothing, accessories, cosmetics, watches, and confectionery. There are also a large number of stalls selling street food snacks, along with cheap restaurants, cafes, and bars.
Yanaka Cemetery
Tokyo's most famous graveyard has the feel of a park with its profuse foliage, including a beautiful alley of cherry trees. The cemetery is dotted with trees, shrubs, small gardens, and graves from the ancient to the modern, beautifully kept and decorated with flowers, or in a state of picturesque decrepitude. Yanaka Cemetery makes for wonderful wandering around its stone paths, taking in the peaceful atmosphere that pervades not only the graveyard but the whole Yanaka district.
Yanaka Ginza Shopping Street
Yanaka is a residential and low-key commercial district where many locals live, and old shops and buildings gather. Yanaka Ginza (谷中銀座) is locals’ favorite place to shop, eat, and hang out with neighbors. It’s the most lively part of the district where visitors can feel the true vibes of local activities.
Snake Path
On the face of it, the street may look like any other street in residential Tokyo. However, the value is in the details. Except for the strong meandering form, which gives you curve after curve, look for the neatly arranged flower pots placed in front of the houses, the narrow streets that flow into the street, and stylish cafes and sweet shops.
Nezu Shrine
This Shinto sanctuary, with roots dating back over 1,900 years, offers visitors a serene escape from the bustling city life. Known for its stunning architecture, vibrant azalea gardens, and vermilion torii gates, Nezu Shrine captivates with its timeless charm. As one of Tokyo's oldest and most beautiful shrines, it seamlessly blends historical significance with breathtaking aesthetics, making it a must-visit destination for both history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
