Meeting Point

At A3 exit of Kiyosumishirakawa station, Hamzomon line (Meet your guide at A3 exit near from ticket gate)

Kiyosumi Garden: One of typical strolling-style garden around pond of Meiji period featuring rare stones arranged around the pond.

Fukagawa Edo Museum: This museum exhibits the streets of Fukagawa town during Tempo period of Edo era showing rice warehouse, common people's houses and watch tower.

Edo Tokyo Museum: This museum is the best place to know the history and culture and lifestyle of Edo-Tokyo. The permanent exhibitions shows 400 years of history and life culture, from the Edo period to the present day.

Hokusai Museum: This museum was built in the home town of world famous Katsushika Hokusai. Major pieces of his work are shown in this futuristic museum.

What to Expect

Tokyo, formerly called Edo which started flourishing after Tokugawa shogun took the power of government in 1603. Edo had been playing an important role as the

epicenter of culture, economy and government since Tokugawa Ieyasu took the power. This trip enable you to explore museums featuring people's homes, shops and lifestyle from Edo period to modern Tokyo.

Kiyosumi Gardens is particularly famous for the strolling-style garden surrounded by fine and beautiful stone gathered by the Iwasaki family from all over Japan to decorate the garden. Stones placed in the garden are used as stepping stones over the pond, the flagstone paths, a stone bridge, a stone lantern and so on. Dai-Sensui Pond is a large man-made pond plays the central scenic role in the garden where three islands are arranged inside. You can enjoy beautiful and peaceful scenery of the garden.

Fukagawa Edo museum: This museum reproduces streets of Fukagawa town of the Edo period. Transition of a day is produced by sounds and lights. Exhibitions items are replaced every season to enable you to enjoy the exhibition room throughout the year.

Edo-Tokyo Museum: Edo-Tokyo museum was established in 1993 as a facility to preserve and learn about the historic and cultural heritage of Edo-Tokyo.

The museum chronologically presents the history and culture of Edo-Tokyo from the Edo period through modern Tokyo.

It is a steel-reinforced building of seven stories above the ground with one story underground. The fifth and sixth floors host the permanent exhibitions showing 400 years of history and life culture, from Edo period to the present day. The key spaces constituting the heart of the museum, which are mainly divided into two zones, Edo and Tokyo.

The Edo zone houses original and replicated historical materials as well as large-scale models of originals. When visitors enter the museum, they catch sight of life-sized replica of the Nihonbashi Bridge that they then cross over.

The Tokyo zone follows the route from modernizing pre-war Japan, civilization and enlightenment of the Meiji restoration and also sections dealing with Tokyo during World War II and the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. Visitors can see various aspects of the city and the changes to everyday life.

Hokusai museum: The area where the Museum was built is world-famous Hokusai's home town. You can know all about his life and achievements in the futuristic museum.
