Two days tour of Dewa Three Mountain shrine from Tokyo

This tour explores the Dewa Three Mountain Shrine in Yamagata prefecture. On the first day, you can observe the very big 5 story pagoda built in Edo period, which recognized as the national treasure and obtained Michelin two stars. We will stay at a shrine lodge for ascetic people. On the second day, we will visit the main shrine and walking down the 2km long steep steps in a forest which obtained Michelin three stars.

At your hotel
Hotel pick-up near the reception and take a train to Tokyo station. The pick-up time depends on where you stay.

9:28-14:20 Train from Tokyo station to Tsuruoka station
We will take the Shinkansen from Tokyo station.

14:32-15:10 Bus to Haguro-yama
We will take a local bus from Tsuruoka station

16:00-17:00 The five story pagoda in a forest
After checking in, we will walk to the five story pagoda which is a National treasure and Michelin ★★.

Stay at Shrine lodge
You will have a Shojin dinner, but the lodge may not have a private room.
The lodge may have a public bath only. There is no hotel nor inn near the shrine. -
2nd day

Experience a Shinto style morning ceremony
It is optional to attend the morning ceremony, but it will be very interesting. We will have our breakfast then.

8:15-8:45 Bus to Haguru-yama Summit
We will take a local bus to the summit.

9:00-10:00 The main shrine and other small sanctuaries
We will walk around the area.

10:00-12:00 Walking down the long steep steps
We will walk down the steps in a forest of the shrine. (Michelin ★★★）

We will have a simple lunch such as a soba noodle.

13:15-13:50 Bus to Tsuruoka station
We will take a local bus.

14:50-19:00 Train to Tokyo station
We will take an express train from Tsuruoka station and change into the Shinkansen at Niigata station via Tokyo.

Important
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan has been closed to foreign travelers since 2020 March. Please ask me the availability of this tour before you book it.
The tour will be available for 7 months from May to November while lodgings are available, but it will be more comfortable from June to October.
The lodge is different from ordinary hotels or inns. We will sleep on a separate mattress with a quilt cover on a tatami floor in a same wide room.
This tour will start from Tokyo.

It is about 30,000 JPY per adult for a return trip from Tokyo to the shrine.

The cost is about 10,000 JPY per adult, including dinner and breakfast.
You may need cash payment at the shrine lodge.
Please ask me, I will do my best by using public transportation as much as possible to answer your request. But tour to other mountains like Mt. Gassan and Mt. Yudono will not be possible until Summer due to transportation and cold weather of high mountains.
Can I make changes after I book?
Yes! If you need to make changes such as removing or adding someone to your booking or changing the date or time of your tour, contact us by phone or email
Starting and ending points of the tour.
After you secure your booking, the starting and ending points of your tour can be customized to your convenience (ex.: your hotel, nearby stations, etc.). Don't worry, we will take care of you! Some tours may have an extra fee for this service, make sure to check the tour page.
What happens after I book a tour?
After booking a tour, the guide will accept (or decline) your booking within 24 hours. Then you will be noticed by email from GoWithGuide.
Is the price per person or per group?
The price is charged per group. Which means that you make a one-time payment for your entire group and the price will not change if it is less or more people.
Can I add more people to my booking?
Some guides accept extra people (more than the specified number) for an extra charge. Please check for the extras on the tour or booking page, or contact your guide directly to clarify.
Will there be other tourists in my tour?
No. Your tour is private, only for you and your family or friends, there will be no other group of tourists together in your tour.
Can the guide pickup me at the airport?
Yes, but there will be additional charge for that and it is not by car. The guide will go pick you up using public transportations. For further details, please contact your guide directly.
I'm travelling alone. Can I book this tour?
Yes, you can and you may be able to get a discount if you are traveling alone. Price depends on which guide you choose.

“ Two great days in Tokyo ”

“ Meiji Shrine, Imperial Palace Gardens and Senso-Ji temple ”
We had an excellent day with Yuki. He was very well organised and prepared a very nice full day itinerary for our family. He organised Passmo travel passes for us all and navigated us around the Tokyo metro and rail network with ease. We visited Meiji Shrine, Imperial Palace Gardens and Senso-Ji temple. As a special treat for our girls (8 and 10 yo) he took us to a Owl cafe where we could have a hot coffee and the girls could get up close to owls, lizards, meerkats, chinchillas, hedgehogs and other animals. We also went to a Udon noodle restaurant for lunch - once again an excellent choice from Yuki. We had a great day and learned a lot at the same time as Yuki was very knowledgeable on everywhere we visited. Thank you Yuki - we really enjoyed our time with you today.

“ Hakone region Nature guide not necessary ”
The weather was unpredictable but we would, as a result, have appreciated the guide to have been more flexible and client responsive. Information lacking on geology of the region, artists and architect of the Picasso museum. I have no doubt the guide will be of more value for a city tour!
