As I shared these stories while guiding you, I found myself thinking anew about my own bond with my family. The omikuji Christina drew at Sakurai Shrine was kichi—a good fortune. It is said to foretell lasting happiness of the most steady and secure kind. I thought the Fūfu Kizuna Mamori you bought, a charm for a couple’s bond, was a fitting keepsake of the deep connection you have built together. As Christina prayed in front of the main shrine, Dave watched from behind. I wondered if he might choose not to pray, but after Christina had finished, he too paid his respects with such care. Seeing the two of you there, with your gentle presence, made me very happy. It was one of those moments that made me feel deeply grateful to be a guide. My car is compact (Honda Jazz), and I felt a little sorry that Dave, being so tall, might not have had much room. I drove carefully, hoping to make the journey as comfortable as possible for you. I’m simply grateful for the time I spent with you both, whose presence was so calm and dignified.
