We will navigate a 3-hour stroll through the back streets of the entertainment district of Hiroshima trying excellent craft beers and sake and stopping off at bars, pubs, and an izakaya, a traditional drinking house, where locals gather with friends and colleagues to enjoy mouth-watering, small-plate dishes cooked don the grill before your eyes along with free-flowing drinks.

The major craft beer bars and pubs in Hiroshima. Sake tasting.
We will visit three venues popular for their excellent craft beers, including IPAs, stouts, and seasonal brews. Their beers often incorporate local ingredients, providing a unique taste of Hiroshima followed by a sake-tasting experience. Hiroshima is renowned for its sake, thanks to its high-quality rice and pure water. Sake Bank offers a curated selection of local and regional sakes, including junmai, ginjo, and daiginjo varieties before adjourning to an Izakaya Tavern for a light meal.
Izakaya dining
The izakaya dining component of your crawl is a feast for the senses, where the smoky aroma of grilled delights mingles with the lively hum of conversation. Picture skewers of succulent meats, fresh seafood, and seasonal vegetables sizzling over glowing charcoal, paired with ice-cold craft beers or smooth sake. This cozy, communal experience captures the heart of Japanese tavern culture, offering a perfect blend of bold flavours and warm hospitality to complement your craft beer adventure.

Hi!
Thanks for reviewing my profile.
I am Australian, from Sydney originally but my life with Japan and its culture and history spans 30 odd years and I have been a Hiroshima resident for 18 of those 30 years.
I joined GoWithGuide just recently but be assured I have led many tours in Hiroshima and more widely throughout metropolitan and regional Japan, sharing conversations about the unique society, its fascinating culture and history. I also have written several tourism blogs for inbound tour companies and also the Hiroshima Prefectural Tourism Bureau.
I speak fluent Japanese and I have immersed myself in the experience of living here in modern and traditional culture and spent many years studying martial arts Aikido and Iaido. I also have a strong interest in Buddhist teachings. My Japanese calligraphy work over the years has been received recognition and several awards and commissions both in Japan and elsewhere.
I'm looking forward to spending a great experience sharing the culture and history of Hiroshima with you.

“Action packed day seeing the key sights in Hiroshima ”
We were a group of 8 from a cruise ship who had arranged a walking tour with Hugh. He led the tour at a fairly smart pace and a couple in our group with some mobility issues did struggle a bit with uneven ground in the garden we visited. He was very knowledgeable about the sites we saw and enthusiastic in imparting his knowledge. He was very helpful in providing information as to how best to get back to our ship. Just a pointer for others - we didn't have time to stop for a drink or anything to eat during the tour.

“Excellent Guide in Hiroshima”
Hugh made our visit interesting and memorable. His historical knowledge gave us added insights to the people, their lives and circumstances and the effects of the events of 1945. He has an obvious interest in the history and culture of this location. We enjoyed his company, guidance and choice of lunch venue. We recommend him highly.

Thanks Niki! It was a great pleasure sharing your day.
