Just an hour from Tokyo, Kamakura offers a unique blend of history, nature, and seasonal beauty. On this half-day tour, a local guide who knows the area well will take you to quiet, lesser-known temples and hidden spots where you can relax and enjoy the best seasonal scenery away from the crowds — the spots I recommend most for that day.

Jochi-ji-temple
Nestled in the quiet hills of Kita Kamakura, Jōchi-ji is a Zen temple known for its tranquil atmosphere and seasonal flowers. In spring, camellias and cherry blossoms brighten the temple grounds; in early summer, hydrangeas add soft colors to the mossy paths; autumn brings vibrant maples and golden ginkgo leaves; and in winter, delicate plum blossoms hint at the coming spring. Away from the crowds, Jōchi-ji offers a peaceful retreat where nature and history harmonize beautifully throughout the year.
Kamegayatsu-zaka
Kamegayatsu-zaka is one of Kamakura’s historic kiridōshi (cut-through passes), carved out in the samurai era. Today it is a quiet walking path where nature changes beautifully with the seasons. In early summer, hydrangeas bloom along the slope, while in autumn, delicate bush clover (hagi) sways in the breeze. The mossy stone walls and tree-lined path create a calm atmosphere, making this pass a hidden gem for those seeking both history and seasonal beauty.
Kaizo-ji temple
Tucked away in the western hills of Kamakura, Kaizō-ji is a Zen temple famed for its seasonal blossoms and tranquil gardens. In spring, plum trees brighten the grounds, while early summer brings irises in full bloom. In autumn, bush clover (hagi) and asters (shion) add delicate colors, and in winter, camellias quietly grace the temple. Known as one of Kamakura’s “flower temples,” Kaizō-ji offers a serene retreat where visitors can enjoy the harmony of nature and history away from the crowds.
Eisho-ji-temple
Eishō-ji, founded in the early Edo period, is Kamakura’s only surviving nunnery. In spring, plum blossoms and white wisteria brighten the precincts, while irises add seasonal color. Summer brings soft hydrangeas, and in autumn, the grounds are graced with bush clover (hagi) and striking red spider lilies (higanbana). The temple is also known for its serene bamboo grove, which enhances the sense of calm throughout the year. Eishō-ji offers a peaceful retreat where seasonal flowers and bamboo together reflect the quiet beauty of Kamakura
Optional Lunch or Café Stop
You can choose between a quick bite, a proper lunch, or just a coffee/snack at a quiet café—whichever you prefer.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
Tsurugaoka Hachimangū is the spiritual heart of Kamakura. In spring, cherry blossoms line the approach, while in summer, lotuses bloom beautifully in the ponds. The ponds are also home to koi, turtles, and ducks, creating a lively yet peaceful scene. Hi, I’m Yacco, a friendly and passionate local guide. I was born and raised in Shizuoka and have lived in Yokohama for over 30 years. For the past several years, I’ve been guiding international visitors in Kamakura, Yokohama, and Tokyo as a volunteer, helping them discover the rich history, culture, and hidden charm of these unique cities.
Traveling abroad creates once-in-a-lifetime memories, and I would love for you to fully experience the beauty and spirit of my favorite towns.
I not only enjoy showing historical and modern landmarks, but also love introducing quiet backstreets, seasonal flowers, cozy cafés, and delicious local food that reflect the charm of everyday life. What I enjoy most is comparing Japanese traditions with my guests’ own cultures and histories—these conversations often lead to deep and inspiring exchanges.
As your guide, I’m happy to customize tours based on your interests, whether you’re seeking unique experiences, historical insights, or local flavors. Let’s walk, talk, and create unforgettable memories together!
