Meeting Point

At you hotel lobby

Choose 2-3 destinations, and I'll make an itinerary concidering your preferences

1. Omotesando, Aoyama and Roppongi

Omotesando is a beautiful avenue lined with zelkova trees on both sides that provides a relaxing atmosphere. It is also lined with refined shops including high-end brand shops, cafés, as well as all sorts of restaurants. It's popular to enjoy walking in the Minami Aoyama district to Roppongi! (1.5km form Omotesando to The National Art Center in Roppongi)

-The Nezu Museum in Aoyama: popular among foreigners not only for its collection but also its amazing garden.

-The National Art Center in Roppongi: designed by the famous architect, Kisho Kurokawa. The restaurant and café in this building are also fantastic!

2. Ginza

Well known for good restaurants and long-established department stores. Basement floors of those departmentsstores are full of beautiful sweets, food and prepared dishes, which have captured the eyes and hearts of many foreign tourists.

Kabukiza and Tukiji Fish Market is nearby.

-KABUKIZA : You can enjoy watching just one act of Kabuki play there by buying the same day ticket.

3.Tsukiji Fish Market

I'd like t to take you to the best shop in the market where you can eat amazing tuna and other fish. It should be the best tuna you'll ever eat in your life!

Of course, you can find anything related to food from fresh fish, meats, fruit, vegetables, and dried foods to knives and kitchenware. Tsukiji is also a famous gourmet spot.

4. Shinjuku

-Tokyo Metropolitan Government building: One of Tokyo's landmarks with free observatories on the 45th floor popular among foreign tourists

-Omoide-yokocho / Golden-gai: narrow alleys lined with tiny bars and shops that offer something to go with sake like yakitori, and more

-huge electronics stores such as Yamada Denki, Bic Camera, and Yodobashi Camera, which offer plenty of equipment such as PCs and electrical home appliances

5. Ikebukuro

-must-spot for girls' anime fan. Otome-street is lined with anime-related shops, especially girls' anime

-Sunshine Aquarium: first rooftop aquarium in Japan based on the concept of “an oasis in the sky”

-J-WORLD-TOKYO: indoor theme park full of animated cartoons from popular comic book “Jump” such as “One piece” “Dragon ball” and “Naruto”

-Nanjatown: indoor theme park that provides everything from amusement to food all at once, which is popular with groups as well as couples

6. Asakusa-Odaiba Tokyo Bay Cruise (including Asakusa and Odaiba)

You can fully enjoy the color of Tokyo from the different angle along the Sumida River toward Tokyo Bay and see many types of bridges spanning the river during an hour cruise.

7. Asakusa

One of the most popular tourist destinations. Senso-ji Temple, famous for its huge red lantern is the oldest and biggest Buddhist temple in Tokyo. But do you know that Asakusa-jinja Shrine is in the same grounds? You can learn about the coexistence of Buddhism and Shintoism here. You can buy traditional Japanese souvenirs at the shopping arcade called Nakamise.

8. Odaiba

Popular among both adults and kids. There are also several kids' places such as the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, an indoor amusement park along with fancy several attractive malls for adults.

9. Ueno

-Ueno Park: designated in 1873 as the first park in Japan. In the huge grounds are a museum complex, zoo, and Toshogu Shrine, which was built in 1627 upon request by Tokugwa Ieyasu in his will.

-Ameyoko (short for Ameya-yokocho) is famous for its extremely cheap seasonal goods and other wares such as cosmetics, shoes, sporting goods, leather jackets and jeans.

10. Kiyosumi-Shirakawa

Old town with several popular coffee shops, temples and shrines, and the famous Kiyosumi-garden, which is one of the greatest masterpieces in Japanese-style gardens in Tokyo.

11. Shibamata

-Taishakuten Temple may not be so widely known to foreign tourist, but it’s been popular among Japanese people because the temple and the approach lined with many long-established shops used to be a set of the movie titled ‘Tora-san’, which has been loved by the Japanese for many years. The carvings attached to the walls of the temple is absolutely overwhelming. You can enjoy the temple house as well as its beautiful garden.

-Yamamoto House: If you'd like to see a traditional Japanese house, it's absolutely a good choice. You can enter the house taking off your shoes, and even enjoy sweets with green tea.

12. Tokyo Sky Tree

The highest communications and observation tower in Japan, whose observation decks command a breath-taking panorama of Tokyo and surrounding area. There are also a planetarium, an aquarium, and a lot of shops and restaurants, so people from all age groups can enjoy there.

13. Marunouchi

-Tokyo Staion: completed in 1914, designated Important Cultural Property, was restored to its original form in 2012.

Recently, many eateries and popular sweets shops have opened their branches in Tokyo station building.

-Imperial Palace: The Edo Castle, formerly the Tokugawa Family’s residence, became the Imperial Palace as the Emperor moved to Tokyo from the Kyoto Imperial Palace after the Meiji Restoration.

- KITTE: a commercial facility run by Japan Post. You can enjoy shops that let you experience Japanese craftsmanship as well as restaurants that serve delicious food from across Japan.

14. Akihabara

The center of electric, comic, card game shops, maid cafes, and anime products. The shop filled with many toy vending machine selling capsule toys called “Gasha-pon” is also popular along with the instant photo booth, Pri-Kura.

-Kanda Myojin Shrine: supposedly built in 730, which is dedicated to Taira no Masakado. The vermilion-lacquered main hall is spectacular. It’s also a sanctuary for anime fans now because of the scene of a popular anime “Love Live”. Adjacent to the Akihabara district, you can find omikuji sold in a capsule toy style.

15. Nakano

A Sanctuary for Otaku (geek, nerd, or freak); enjoy Japanese sub-culture fully at Nakano Broadway. If you love a certain anime character, you can even make your cell-phone case printed your favorite one. Anyway, everything Otaku want is here.

16.Harajuku

Pop fashion & shopping area: all sorts of fashion categories, popular snack like colorful cotton candy, and unique cafes such as Cat Cafe, Dog Cafe, Hedgehog Cafe and Pig Cafe are available there.

17.Shibuya

Teenager shopping area: Walking from Harajuku to Shibuya, you can see shop windows displaying the latest fashion for the young. And you can visit to Shibuya station to see the Hachiko statue and the ‘human scramble’ traffic crossing.

18. Msiji-jingu Shrine

Located in Harajuku, Shibuya, it’s popular among foreign tourists. The 'Well of Kiyomasa' in this garden has become famous as a so-called power spot. Pure water has been welling up for more than 400 years.

It must be amazing to walk in the beautiful man-made forest in the middle of city.

19. Hie-jinja Shrine

Famous for its Sanno Festival, one of the three biggest festivals in Japan. You can also see the National Diet Building and other important buildings nearby.

20. Zojo-ji Temple

Situated near Tokyo Tower, Zojoji Temple is the chief temple of the Jodo-Buddhist sect. It had a deep connection to the Tokugawa Shogunate family. Just behind the temple is Toyo Tower. The beautiful combination of Zojo-ji Temple and Tokyo Tower is really photogenic!

21. Tokyo Daijingu

It's called ‘o-Ise-sama in Tokyo’, this shrine is especially popular among young women who want to encounter their future husband. You can get a pretty charm on which flowers or Hello Kitty is embroidered.

If you are interested in shrines, please visit my blog, "Visiting Tokyo ten shrines"

What to Expect

Every tourist has his or her own preferences and needs. For example, my 76-year-old mother is a very out-going person and still loves to travel in spite of the artificial joint embedded in her ankle. She is vigorous in mind but can no longer walk as fast as people around her. But we can enjoy traveling by considered arrangement. Also, I have been astounded at the allergic reaction of my friend who is allergic to crustaceans. We weren’t aware that shrimps were used for making soup stock of the ramen we ate. That experience made me more careful about food for people who have some allergy. Please feel free to tell me anything you worry about. Careful preparation makes you feel free from any anxiety and brings you wonderful travel memories

On the other hand, some people may have a strong urge to walk around Tokyo at their own pace and visit some places of their particular interests without being constrained by others. Why don’t we make a special itinerary together? It’s my pleasure to help you appreciate deep attractions in Japan.

Mayumi made our short Tokyo adventure well worth it! She is a superstar!

My family (4 adults) was tired and hardly had any sleep the night before due to a late flight arrival, but when we met Mayumi the following early morning at the Skytree Tower in Tokyo, Mayumi greeted us with her bright smile and warm hello, and there was a ray of sunshine she brought with her! I had planned a very specific packed 4-hour itinerary with Mayumi (we communicated in advance) that required Metro/subway rides. I did not think we would be able to go to all the places we planned to visit, but lo and behold, Mayumi got us through them all with her organized planning, expertise with the complex Metro system and her enviable energy! It was extremely hectic with fast-paced walking, but this was expected, and she even got us back to our hotel just in time for my family to catch the airport bus that picked us up for our flight later that day! Unbelievably, Mayumi also managed to find a pop-up official Olympics store at the Shibuya area where we were able to purchase our much-desired 2020 Tokyo Olympics souvenirs that we had previously requested to do! Mayumi is a superstar! She is very knowledgeable, remained cheerful the entire time, and it was a delight being with her. We would gladly ask for her in the future if the opportunity arises to visit Japan again, hopefully in a more relaxed itinerary..Thank you, Mayumi, you made our short Tokyo adventure well worth it! We are very grateful.

Thank you Susan for writing such a wonderful review. Your warm comments really encourage me in this difficult situation due to corona virus. I'm happy you really enjoyed the tour with me. As you had to take the bus to the airport and had things to buy and see, we did things quickly. We finally succeeded doing everything we planned!! Thank you again for keeping up with the fast pace. But I really want you to enjoy a leisurely tour spending more time at each place. Please come back to Japan again. I have many ideas to entertain you both in and outside Tokyo. I'm always happy to putting on my thinking cap so that you can enjoy your stay as much as possible. Looking forward to the next chance.

When in Japan you need the best, call Mayumi

We booked Mayumi for our trip to Japan, starting in Tokyo. We booked a nine hour tour and were able to see all the sites. Very happy with Mayumi attention to details and how she mixed up old Japan with the modern Japan. She was even so kind to to help us cook Shabu Shabu for lunch. If you need a great guide, don’t look any further. Book Mayumi!

Mayumi H.

First of all, thank you for coming to Japan this time. I was really happy to be with you and your family. As your kids are full of intellectual curiosity, I enjoyed answering their questions. I'm happy you like sukiyaki and shabu shabu. Although some foreign tourists hesitate to eat row egg, you all tried and liked it. That's the way the Japanese eat sukiyaki. I can imagine that you are having great time in another place in Japan learning something new every day. There are different specialties at different places throughout Japan. Please have fun!! And of course, please take good care of yourselves to stay fit. Lastly, thank you for writing such a kind review in the middle of your tour. Please say hi to everyone. Looking forward to seeing you again in the future!!

Best of Tokyo with Mayumi!

We are grateful to have met Mayumi and to have spent a full day with her touring Tokyo. She is a warm and personable host, happy to share her knowledge with her clients and to maximize their enjoyment of the sites in Tokyo. Her special interests are the shrines and temples of Japan. There are many in Tokyo and these were special stops during our tour. We highly recommend Mayumi as a guide for Tokyo sites.

Mayumi H.

Hi David! First of all, thank you for coming to Tokyo this time though some people decide not to travel to Japan because of the concern about the corona virus. We were able to leisurely enjoyed each place as there were less big groups of tourists in Tokyo then. I was really happy you were interested in many things about our history and culture. I've just been to Kyoto. I went on a hiking to a sacred mountain that has a beautiful temple and shrines. I have lots of tips that I'd like to share with you. I'm looking forward to the next chance to do another tour with you. Lastly, thank you so much for writing such a warm review. Please say hi to Melissa!

Fantastic

Absolutely a great day. Mayumi was the perfect host. We are a family of four two boys 14 & 10 . We had a wonderful day we wanted to see as many aspects of Tokyo that we could fit in a day. From the very beginning she was very engaging and knowledgeable. We had a pace that was quick but also easy to maintain, just the way we wanted it allowing us to see so much. She answered all and any questions we had. We had amazing food around town as well as the restaurant we stopped at. She was very insightful in to Japan’s history as well as the modern day. The boys really liked her Booking this private tour was the absolute right Decision. Thank you

Mayumi H.

Jason, thank you so much for all those words you gave me. I really appreciate it. From the very beginning, I was very happy to be with you. The boys are amazingly quick learners and always listened to me carefully, which made me want to show you as much as possible. You all are such skillful travelers that you 'd like to try any food you've never eaten. Remember the word you learned when you ate the super yummy Toro? "Cho- Oishii!!"? I'm sure you'll encounter more "Cho- oishii" while in Japan. Please enjoy Hiroshima, Osaka, and Kyoto! Local delicacies are waiting for your family. I hope I'll meet you again. Big hugs!!
