Explore Mt. Sakurajima, the heart of Kagoshima, by using a local ferry and buses from downtown. It is an active volcano which smokes almost every day and seven erupts sometimes, but people are happy enough to live their daily lives on the very foot of the mountain. Find out why. Later on visit Senganen, a popular scenic garden which were loved by lords of Satsuma (an old name for Kagoshima) who ruled the domain over seven centuries. Enjoy relaxing sceneries and imagine samurai life.

“Excellent Guide”
We went on a 6 hour tour with Maki to see the beautiful Samurai Gardens and the lookout to the volcano. Make was very thorough in contacting us in advance and arranging our meeting point and local transportation. Everything went very smoothly. She was a very kind, knowledgeable, and wonderful guide, making sure to give us good information, and making sure we were comfortable. And there were extras, too. For example, we didn't have time to stop for a meal, so she had stopped at a store in advance of the tour and bought us sandwiches we could eat on the go. We stopped at a spot where we could experience the custom of soaking our feet in a volcanic hot spring, and she provided a gift of small towels so we could dry off our feet. She took pictures of us and sent those by email. Just lots of little extras that made it a good day. Her English is very good (she teaches English at a local elementary school). We had a good tour, ran on time, and we enjoyed our day with her. We'd highly recommend her.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of senganen gardens. Maki was very charming and provided us with an excellent education about this important UNESCO World Heritage Site. It quite beautiful and a must see…especially with Maki. My husband and I couldn’t have had a better tour guide and senganen tour.
