Meeting Point
Your Hotel
- I will come and meet with you at your hotel. Please be ready on time and after you had your breakfast. contact me if you need recommendations for breakfast in Kyoto :)
Nijo Castle
We'll start our day at Nijo Castle, a site that played a pivotal role in Japan’s history.
Built in 1603 as the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo Period, this castle symbolizes the power and influence of the shogunate.
It was here in 1867 that the last shogun returned power to the emperor, marking the end of samurai rule.
As we walk its historic grounds, I’ll share fascinating tales of the samurai era, from epic battles to the intrigue of political rivalries.
This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important sites in order to understand the connection between Japan of old and the one we see today.
as fitting it's significands inside Nijo Castle we will see one of Kyoto biggest and most pretty gardens.
The Golden Pavilion
The Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji) is one of Kyoto’s most iconic landmarks. Built in the 14th century as a retirement villa for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, this temple is covered in shimmering gold leaf, symbolizing wealth and power.
while we walk next to it magnificent pond I’ll tell you the sad story of the monk who burned it down in 1950 and the temple’s reconstruction.
As we explore the serene grounds, you’ll also learn about its deep connection to Buddhism and the after life.
Lunch
There are great restaurants next to the Golden Temple.
Traditional Kyoto style ramen, curry rice or okonomiyaki, it's one of my favorite areas to eat and it's a shame we can only get one lunch :)
Also a great coffee shop near by.
Ryoan-ji
After lunch we will walk to Ryoan-ji, a temple renowned for its world-famous Zen rock garden.
Built in the 15th century, Ryoan-ji invites contemplation with its minimalist design, where 15 stones are arranged on gravel, this careful design is meant to inspire reflection and stillness of mind.
I’ll share the fascinating history behind the garden’s creation and the mystery of its true meaning.
We’ll also stroll around the peaceful Kyoyochi Pond, surrounded by greenery and lotus leaves, the ever changing plants offers a perfect contrast to the solidness of the rock garden.
Arashiyama Bamboo Grove
Our last stop is the enchanting Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, one of Kyoto’s most known spots.
This place is more than an Instagram friendly spot, It was the vacation area for the Japanese Imperial family.
Walking through towering bamboo stalks, you’ll feel why...
The rustling of the bamboo creates a calming, otherworldly sound.
Afterward, we’ll head up to a scenic viewing point overlooking the River offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
Then, we’ll descend to the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge, where legends still persist.

Hello there :)
My name is yakir and I'm a tour guide in Kyoto.
Before settling down in Japan I've traveled in many Asian countries and for me a big part of any trip to Asia is visiting the local shrines and temples.
Some people are enjoying the night life or restaurants but I'm looking for the atmosphere in an ancient temple where the incents have been burning for hundreds of years and monks are going in silent concentration.
Kyoto is the temple capitol of the world with more than 16,000 different temples and shrines hidden in the city and I just love to find and share the beauty and magic in them.
I've studied Asia studies in Uni and also learned and practiced Chinese medicine, Qi gong and Zen meditation.
I can show you the most Big and Powerful of Kyoto's temple or the quite, unique and serene local shrines.
(I also love running so if you brought your running shoes let me now :)
