Korekawa Jomon Museum and Goshono Jomon Site
Following the end of the Ice Age, the Jomon Period began in Japan around 13,000 years B. C. and lasted 10,000 years. Aomori Prefecture, together with the prefectures of
Hokkaido, Akita and Iwate hope for the inclusion of 17 Jomon prehistoric sites located in northern Japan as world cultural heritage sites. Come visit the fabulous Jomon museum of Korekawa in Hachinohe and then Goshono Jomon site in northern part of Iwate, not far from Hachinohe.

Korekawa Jomon Museum houses magnifiscent artifacts unearthed from the Korekawa Stone Age sites. The museum has one national treasure clay figurine with clasped hands, called Gassho Dogu, and one of the largest collections of lacquered clay and wooden pots, and lacquered baskets from the final Jomon period, which is about 1,000 to 300 years B.C. The museum also has a large collection, Izumiyama Collection, of snow-goggle eyed clay figurines and Kamegaoka style pots and vessels.
Yama-no-Gakko, or mountainside former school in the rural area of Hachinohe
Lunch at Yama-no-Gakko, or a former school now used as a restaurant and an exhibition room for old farmer's tools and house utensiles. This place also provides classes for experiencing Japanese buckwheat noodle making, Japanese rice cracker baking, and rice planting and harvesting, depending on the season.
Goshono Jomon Site, Ichinohe Town, Iwate Prefecture
The site is considered to be a hub settlement during the period of 2,500 to 2,000 years B.C. You can see the ruins of excavated base of a dwelling (approx. 4,000 year old) over the glass floor in the museum and later visit the site and see reconstructed pit dwellings and ruins of pit graves with stone alignments.

She made special arrangements for her to see a shrine (the main purpose of the trip ) when the road was closed and the shrine was closed - she got her in anyway!!
