Shinjuku Station (Odakyu Shinjuku West Exit)
Being in a concrete jungle such as Tokyo for the first time, one can find it quite hard to grasp the grand scale of this massive place at eye level. Gazing at landscapes or cityscapes from rooftops or observation decks has always been a passion of mine so, this tour starts off from an observation deck 202 meters high. Experience a breath-taking view of the Tokyo Metropolitan area, have the chance to see the Tokyo Tower, Sky Tree, Meiji Shrine Yoyogi park and if the weather is perfect, you can see Mount Fuji in the distance. Next, getting accustomed to the Japanese food may be nerve wracking, but the oldest fish market ( Tsukiji ) offers various options and many free food samples that you can try. My personal favorite is the juicy smoked tuna steak prepared right in front of you! Now that your body has been refueled with food, going to the oldest and most famous temple in Tokyo called the Sensoji Temple in Asakusa will connect you to the spiritual side of Japan. Since I come from an Architectural studies background, you will learn how to distinguish between a Temple, a Shrine and understand what each place focuses on. The Asakusa area used to be an entertainment district back in the day and now you can also find many stores that offer different foods and wonderful desserts such as Macha flavored ice-cream. Moreover, this is a good place to buy gifts such as Kimonos and Japanese style clothing for your pets ! With all the food and desserts that you have probably filled up your stomach with by now, the best way to lighten yourself is with an activity! We will head over to a local batting cage where you get a chance to hit baseballs in a safe and controlled environment. We are now, getting close to the end of the day and now is the best time to take it easy and relax at a public bath house. Don't worry, tattoos are okay and males and females are separated. Before, we bid farewell, we will have a night time walk through some hidden and narrow alleys such as " Omoide Yokocho or Memory lane " and Golden Gai.
