Hello! I’m Koichiro. Please call me “Yamasan”. It derives from my family name and my friends call me so. I worked for a machinery company as a project manager and engineer for mechanical and electrical construction projects both domestic and overseas for over 35 years. I recall my first overseas project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when I was 26, and the second was in Singapore. I visited many countries for surveys, meetings, commissioning, project handing over, and so on. In 2014 at the age of 60, I decided to retire from the company and live the expected further 30 years of life with a new career and experiences. I, then, studied translation and guide interpretation. I passed the national examination for licensed guides (English) in 2015 and registered with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in February 2016. Until now, I have been guiding many beautiful guests mainly to popular sightseeing spots such as Asakusa, Tsukiji, Omote-Sando, Meiji Jingu Shrine, and Tokyo Skytree, and also cultural experiences of Origami making, Furoshiki wrapping, and Sushi cooking. I am happy that I can freely arrange a customized tour together with you, or can propose my tours to you. I want to show you some parts of daily Tokyo life and introduce you to Bunkyo City which is located in the heart of Tokyo, just north of Chiyoda City where the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Station are. The city is Tokyo’s typical residential and academic area where I was born, grew up, and live a happy life now. Now, we can tour around the world but have not yet overcome COVID-19 completely. Recently, the number of passengers wearing masks on public transportation in Tokyo reduced to some 25% but we should mind about it still. Please carry your mask to wear it where or when necessary (December 2024, Yamasan).

Eastern Tokyo Tour: Taito, Chuo, and Minato

“Amazing tour with Grant ”

Day, one of our five days with the amazing Grant! What a wealth of knowledge, perspective, culture, history, and locations Grant has! We explored a huge amount of eastern Tokyo and Grant provided a wide diversity of adventures for the day! From the more formal shrine and temple visits through iconic neighborhoods, and extremely clever fun restaurant that you enter through a vending machine door! And tremendous food sampling! A very educational Japanese ceremony that was both enlightening and delightful. Walk-through parks of heartbreaking beauty, and exciting sections of Shinjuku with fun, 3-D billboards, neon light galleries, and saki tasting! So excited to spend the rest of our week with him and make more magical memories. Touring withGrant is a must if you’re coming to Tokyo either for the first time or if you’ve been here many times!

Asakusa, Private Tea Ceremony Lesson and Kappabashi kitchen street

“Wonderful way to see Tokyo”

Wow, what an amazing time we had today! Four of us enjoyed the tea ceremony which was lovely, and kitchen street but as well as that we walked along the river to see the cherry blossom, had a Japanese lunch and were shown shops specific to the items we sought. Our go with guide Chiaki was wonderful! She went over and above to show us the things we asked for, took photos of us altogether, was attentive, and took us back to our hotel even though it was way past the time she was meant to spend with us. I cannot recommend this way of seeing Japan highly enough!! We had what equated to a personalised private tour for a very reasonable rate! We felt safe and able to ask questions as Chiaki translated everything for us. She was informative about the things we saw and has made our time in Tokyo truly special and memorable.

How about an enjoyable walking in Tokyo?

“Excellent day”

Yoshi was the perfect guide showing us around Tokyo our first day here. He showed us how to buy and use the subway system and took us on a grand tour of the city. He gave us just enough history while showing us temples and cherry blossoms. We logged over 20,000 steps which was a little over 9 miles. I am amazed we were able to keep up! Thank you again for an unforgettable day in Tokyo.
