“A Sensational Day With Mayumi”
From her prompt, helpful booking communications, throughout the memorable day we spent together, Mayumi could not have done more to elevate our experience. As a photography hobbyist, I was eager to shoot the famous “floating” torii gate at Itsukushima Shrine before the tide receded. We thought our cruise ship’s late-morning docking might make it a close call. But when Mayumi met us at the pier, she had a taxi standing by for our drive to the ferry. A fast-boat run put us on Miyajima Island with time to spare. Smart planning. I was champing at the bit to point my lens at the O-Torii, but Mayumi gently slowed me down to take in the shrine. The sight of a Shinto priest at prayer beneath softly glowing lanterns yielded some of my favorite captures from our time in Japan. Mayumi introduced us to other delights like the 500 knit-cap statues at Daisho-in Temple, and Miyajima’s free-roaming deer. (Condolences to the tourist we saw lose a bite from her unfolded map to a hungry doe.) After finding us a perfect light lunch, Mayumi led us back to Hiroshima via ferry, tram, and subway as only a local could. Having grown up in Hiroshima and spent time in the States, she speaks perfect English, is deeply knowledgeable on all things Hiroshima, and kept us fully engaged with illuminating anecdotes, a lively sense of humor, and her openness to answering any question we asked. Her insights into Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park – from the A-Bomb Dome to the Children’s Peace Monument and story of Sadako Sasaki, to the Peace Flame and Memorial Cenotaph – immeasurably broadened our understanding of Hiroshima’s quest for an end to war. I doubt we’ll ever forget our visit to the Hypocenter plaque outside Shima Hospital or views of the dome from atop Orizuru Tower, where she showed us how to fold paper cranes for release into the Orizuru Wall. Mayumi's generosity, expertise, and wonderful company enriched our lives. Thank you, Mayumi!

“Day in Hiroshima”
Keiji collected us from the train station as we arrived from Kyoto by train. Keji was very flexible and allowed us to change the itinerary. We visited the Atomic bomb dome and Peace memorial museum. Keiji had purchased the tickets online for us so we did not need to wait in the que . It was very busy as there was a flower festival. He took us for lunch to a Okonomiyaki restaurant which catered for the members of our party who were vegetarian. It was a very nice experience. We then took the ferry to Itsukushima shrine in Miyajima island. It was very nice experience even though it was very crowded. We did not have time to visit the castel but saw it in the distance.

“A memorable tour of Miyajima Island”
Thank you Mayumi for such a professional and informative tour. All the information you gave us was not in the guide books and the tour was a highlight of our first trip to Japan. Mayumi met us at the cruise terminal at 1.30, and took us to the station to get the train to the ferry terminal. On the island we saw the Tori gate, Itsukushima Shrine, Daishoin temple, the pagoda, temple of 1000 tatami mats, 500 miniature Buddhas in red hats lining our path and many features of each. We bought some maple cakes, a local specialty and ate them with ocha (tea) and looked at the shops before getting back to the ship at 6pm. Miyajima Island is a special place and well worth a visit with a local guide like Mayumi.

(133 reviews)Dear Alan, Many thanks for the great review. I really enjoyed the time I spent with you two. Miyajima is a tiny island but has a lot of charms to offer. May you come back to this island again to stay someday. You would be blessed with a serene and peaceful evening and a stunning morning view. Best, Mayumi
