Hello! I’m Koichiro. Please call me “Yamasan”. It derives from my family name and my friends call me so. I worked for a machinery company as a project manager and engineer for mechanical and electrical construction projects both domestic and overseas for over 35 years. I recall my first overseas project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when I was 26, and the second was in Singapore. I visited many countries for surveys, meetings, commissioning, project handing over, and so on. In 2014 at the age of 60, I decided to retire from the company and live the expected further 30 years of life with a new career and experiences. I, then, studied translation and guide interpretation. I passed the national examination for licensed guides (English) in 2015 and registered with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in February 2016. Until now, I have been guiding many beautiful guests mainly to popular sightseeing spots such as Asakusa, Tsukiji, Omote-Sando, Meiji Jingu Shrine, and Tokyo Skytree, and also cultural experiences of Origami making, Furoshiki wrapping, and Sushi cooking. I am happy that I can freely arrange a customized tour together with you, or can propose my tours to you. I want to show you some parts of daily Tokyo life and introduce you to Bunkyo City which is located in the heart of Tokyo, just north of Chiyoda City where the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Station are. The city is Tokyo’s typical residential and academic area where I was born, grew up, and live a happy life now. Now, we can tour around the world but have not yet overcome COVID-19 completely. Recently, the number of passengers wearing masks on public transportation in Tokyo reduced to some 25% but we should mind about it still. Please carry your mask to wear it where or when necessary (December 2024, Yamasan).

I was a school teacher here for 25 years, starting in Japanese public schools before transitioning to an American institution. I had worked for the Japan's biggest travel agency JTB (Japan Travel Bureau) for 35 years as a tour escort for Japanese. I visited 68 countries and of course all over Japan as well. So I’m familiar with almost all of the tourist attractions in Japan. More over I’m also a professional magician now. I’m a member magician of The Magic Castle in Hollywood in US. That's why I made a decision to become an English tour guide. I acquired a tour guide license issued by the Japanese government with a lot of hard work in 2016 and I started from the following year. I work as an English guide approximately 130 days a year. My wife is physically disabled, and I usually care for her. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I receive home care and bathing services, so I am unable to go out during the day as I have to prepare for and clean up afterwards. I am available to guide on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. I can take up to four people sightseeing in my private car. “Amazing guide!”
We had the most wonderful day in Kanazawa with Yoji. His English was exceptional and his knowledge extraordinary. We had booked him for 7.5 hours and were worried it would be too long, but the day flew by. Yoji just strolled around the city taking us through the castle, the amazing gardens, the best coffee so far in Japan and we finally found examples of the no nails building techniques, which are just brilliant. Through the Geisha district, then the Samurai district, viewing original Samurai homes from a foot solider to the head of Samurai armies. He took us to a local soba noodle restaurant for an amazing lunch, plus a lot of fascinating little shops that you would normally disregard or walk by. It was the most memorable day, made so by a wonderful human, that has given us an insight into the Japanese culture, both past and present that will remain with us for a long time. The weather was also perfect, so a beautiful way to bring our Japanese holiday to a close.

“Fantastic tour of Tokyo’s jazz scene”
Had a fantastic time on the jazz tour. 1st time to Tokyo and after hearing about its jazz culture, was very keen to experience it but had no idea where to start. Couldn’t have asked for a better evening. We visited three brilliant and unique venues, each with amazing performances. Leandra is a very welcoming and knowledgeable guide, a huge help with navigating Tokyo’s train network and had many other useful tips and great recommendations for sight seeing other areas of Tokyo and Japan overall. Sad to leave Tokyo but very glad to have experienced a part of its live music culture and will hopefully go back one day to do it all again. If you are a fan of jazz music I highly recommend this tour. Cheers and thanks.

“Charged Extra”
Hello. We had a brief day with Kei visiting Snow Monkeys and Buddhist temple. However when we returned to the Nagano train station he told us we owed him an additional 16,000 yen, because we used his car. I expected an extra charge for gas. Maybe 5000 yen or less. Especially since I paid all parking charges. So paying him an additional 16,000 Yen at drop off was very troubling and I think it was a ripoff. Please let me know if you agree and can then credit me back to my charge card for these very important excessive additional charges, after the tour charges I paid you in advance for. Ty. Fred E. A
