“The Perfect Stress-Free Start to Our Japan Journey”

Atsushi was the perfect guide for our very first day of touring in Japan. Navigating a new country can be daunting, but he was waiting for us in the lobby of our Yokohama hotel which immediately provided for a stress-free day. As we were headed to Kyoto at the end of the day he helped with our luggage storage at Yokohama station so we could travel 'unburdened' to Kamakura. His deep knowledge of the Samurai era and the history of the Great Buddha at Kotoku-in was fascinating. From historical insights to helping us navigate the Shinkansen gates and picking out the best "ekiben" for our train ride to Kyoto, Atsushi ensured our first day was seamless and memorable. We couldn't have asked for a better start to our trip!

Rhonda, Mal, it was so nice walking around Yanaka with you today. I'm glad you both enjoyed this quiet, relaxed area. Having just spent a week walking the pilgrimage trails through the mountains of the Kumano Kodo until yesterday, I felt a sense of peace guiding you around the familiar neighborhood near my home this afternoon. It was wonderful sharing the nostalgic shopping streets, temple town, cemetery, and interactions with local middle schoolers with you, experiencing the daily lives of ordinary people, and enjoying my favorite snacking (roasted sweet potatoes and rice crackers called “kakinotane(persimmon seeds)”) together. “Great guide!”

Akira was great. His English is excellent, no accent. You will have no trouble understanding everything he says. He has a low key relaxed demeanor and is pleasant to be with. We appreciated how he taught us the proper process of approaching and praying at the shrines. Before our trip he asked us questions about how we would like to spend our day. We gave him some general parameters and based on that he gave us a suggested itinerary, which included visiting shrines, quiet off the beaten path neighborhoods, and busy/popular areas. His plan was perfect.
